I got the self titled album in the fall of 96, my freshman year of high school. Another guy in my class was also really into that album, and we became friends and started hanging out. Eventually we both had their entire discography, plus a half dozen bootlegs. We would drive around in his S-10 listening to sublime compilation tapes and smoking tons of weed lol. We are still friends to this day, I'm about to be 39 and he's 40. We still hang out, smoke weed, and listen to music. Thanks Sublime!

My absolute favorite band of all time, and that story of the double note in the solo gave me chills!
@marvinlear58483 жыл бұрын
I don't know about chills, but I did feel emotional. I'll explain. I've been playing that solo for many years now. People always transcribe it without the double note, but I hear it there, and so I've always played it as a double note. Nevertheless, it has always confused me because no matter how quickly I try to alternate pick it, it never sounds quite right. I'd wondered if there was some other technique going on there that I hadn't thought of, lol. Of course, Brad's dead, and it's such an obscure question to ask anyway,-it never even _occurred_ to me I'd ever get an answer to that question. So when he started telling that little story...man, my jaw dropped a little. What are the chances?!? after all these years. It feels like a cross between nostalgia and resolution.

Capturing lighting and Genius in a bottle like that only happens every once in 50-100 years in recorded music history. Bradley Nowell had a proven IQ of 142 on paper even by age 11. He was placed in a program called M.G.M mentally gifted minors by his parents in Orange County CA. He was the true unspoken genius of the 1990s. Sublime is without a doubt my favorite band of all time.... They have brought this world so much happiness with their music and into my life. Hearing Brad, Eric, and Bud’s solo tracks was haunting, amazing, and bitter sweet all at the same time. Thank you Rolling Stone for covering this... watching this brought me great joy, chills down my spine, and watery eyes. As well respected as Brad is these days, I still think he’s a bit underrated. The guy stands out in an era of music where brilliant songwriters were hiding behind every corner. To this day he would have still been making such killer tracks. I could only imagine what they would have came up with. So many different albums with different sounds. Well, his music lives on through us all because he inspired so many bands and sounds we hear today. But no one could do it like Bradley, and that's what makes it so special. RIP. Thanks for inspiring me so much, lifting me up, and getting me through the hard times. Thanks for your music, your soul, the vibration and frequency you left in this universe that will last forever. ♥️🎸🎤🐾

Brad I believe did have perfect pitch. I’ve never heard him sing a bum note and I’ve heard every single song he ever sang! Such an injustice to lose him at that point. We love ya guys and thanks for the memories! ❤️

"New Song" is probably my favorite Sublime track. There's so many amazing tunes in their catalog. There's very little filler on their records, even Robbin' the Hood is great background music.

I love that as I immediately paused to rewind the isolated guitar solo track, I noticed that that's the most played part of the video too. Music :)

Love this little insight into how this song was made and recorded. Arlyn Studios was my first internship as a sound engineer, back in 2001. It was an epic place to see pros in action. So many great artists have passed through there, but it was Sublime that drew me to the studio. such a great album.

Man, being 16 and discovering Sublime and marijuana was the time of my life. 23 years later and the song’s still great.

I celebrated halloween with buds parents in 97. They brought a motorized scooter, that was awesome. Will never forget living in long beach! Best time of my life

Damn! That punch out note made that solo iconic. I can’t imagine how much time guitarists spent to copy that “mistake”! Love for all!

IMO, brad's guitar playing on the pre cursor to santeria, "lincoln highway dub" on robbin' the hood, is even more impressive

Ain't nobody can write and perform a song like like Sublime could. It breaks my heart that Bradley didn't get to see how many people adored what he did.
