I understand Steven getting irritated with the same questions over and over again (and Rolling Stone should be more inventive), but Richard showed him how best to answer it here. No point in getting too wound up about it - it's Steven's job to promote his work and sitting there answering a few questions isn't hard work. Plus there will be a fair chunk of newbies watching the video, who won't know much about him and Porcupine Tree but do have an interest. Just roll with it, Steven!

Richard makes Steven look like a brat in the first 10 min. Richard has class!

He was in Japan that's why they had class and so do porcupine tree

I know he probably didn't mean to come off as rude, and I can imagine it gets annoying being asked the same question over and over, but the way Steven answered that first question really caught me off guard..

To be honest, I'm a bit surprised it's taken him this long to finally get fed up with answering those questions over and over again. Cuz he's right: he has been asked those same questions for YEARS.

I think more than anything it shows that the interviewer didn't bother to do a little bit of research on the interviewee to come up with an original question to ask, so I can understand why Steven would answer in that manner.

I dunno man, these were the most generic and low-effort questions you could ever ask a musician. I don't blame him
@nectarinedreams72082 жыл бұрын
If the interviewer thought that question was fine then he or she is probably not a fan and/or just doesn't give a fuck about PT, so I doubt he'll take offense to what Wilson said and therefore neither should anybody else.

Yeah same. I love Steven Wilson and everything he does, pretty much, but he was just being a dick in that first question. Doesn't change the way I see him or his work, but a bit of humility costs nothing.

Questions that are missing in this Interview: what is your favourite food? what is your favourite animal? what is you favourite pokemon?

I agree with Steven, if you indulge in the hobby of listening to many albums, you can't choose a favourite. People need to ask more interesting questions.

Frank Zappa said exactly the same. Freak Out has his list there. He told the interviewee go read that. So similar a question no musicians should answer because they listen to albums you have never heard of!!!
@malekmo642 жыл бұрын
I like your answer about favourite, Steven. Try reading one chapter in many books and saying "I know the book!". Every song is it's own story, have to listen to every chapter of the book in song!!! Both books and songs are stories. Need to read/hear all of them as one whole.

This interview is bit preachy to be fair, love the music but Steven is a bit of a damp squib to be fair, Steven stick to making music and let others do Interviews, you don’t like questions, you don’t care what the fans want when making music, comes over a bit petulant to be fair. Without fans you would have to get a job and work 40 hours a week and wouldn’t live the way you do. Reality check could be the title of your next album.

so many bots commenting, wtf is up. is that what we've come to with porcupine tree? or is it rolling stone?
@Prizzy9992 жыл бұрын
Asking a musician what their favourite album is means putting them in a rather difficult position, cos depending on the answer it might look like they do not love what they've being doing with their own band(s). I wouldn't answer that question either honestly, it's a bit tricky and very boring indeed.
