If you are looking "how to tune a carburetor" or "How to re jet a carburetor" I have got you covered. I will show you step by step how to rejet, tune and even clean your carb. I will also show you what each carburetor component does. This will include the carburetor jets, pilot and main, float adjustment and air/fuel screw adjustments along with the carburetor jet needle clip settings. By the end of this video you will learn how to tune your carburetor, clean your carburetor, and even know what each tiny component does. You will have a good understanding of how high altitude and performance exhaust and filters change the air fuel mixture in your carb. please comment what you have learned if any so I can have some feedback on what my next KZbin video can be about.

I've been a mechanic for 7 years, I work on old cars, chainsaws, motorbikes, and have messed up more carburettors than I'd care to admit, to get to the point I'm at now. When I did my apprenticeship the training organisation only spent a 3 hour lesson on carburettor function, and we never worked on one. This video should be standard viewing for any mechanical course. It explains everything perfectly, and I'll be sharing it with anyone who cares to listen. Well done, and thank you!

I've been tuning carbs for years on everything from 2 stroke to brig's to VWs to racing V8s and many multi carb set ups from street strip racing and off road rigs. You have definitely explained in 30 minutes what I spent many years early on to learn trial and error as a young man. I'm the go to guy for my buddies when it comes to tuning carbs and timing and over all engine flow from air in to the exhaust out the end of the tail pipe. From now on I'm sending the guys that come to me to your video so just maybe they can learn for themselves. Teaching guys about tuning carbs is like talking French to a Spanish taught cajon You got it covered down to plain English.

Having been a teacher part of my life and an engine DIY-er I think this video is one of the best I have ever seen. It is extremely well planned, documented and explained part by part. Hoping you will appreciate positive comment to make it even more perfect, you could spend a bit more time on pilot jetting versus the turning of its mixture screw (with the wideband in place). As an addition you could also mention some carbs have a separate idle air-jet on the filter side of the carb. Thanks a lot for taking the time to make the video.

If a person can't tune a basic carburetor after watching and reviewing this they really don't have aptitude for this and shouldn't be messing with it. Truly a comprehensive video and very well explained. You are absolutely an asset to the engine community! I am a snowmobile/ATV/PWC mechanic of many years. This video was exceptionally well done. Something to add.. You start with the pilot circuit because that jet is there from beginning to end. It continues to spray along with the other circuits. You need to get that one right first. He does exactly that, I am just pointing out why. Excellent video, well done sir!!

Thanks for this... i was wondering how that worked. It makes sense that all the jets just add to eachother because it will need more and more fuel when you open the throttle (air) more.

This was the best explanation about jetting. And I'm not mechanic. Got some knowledge all-around from my father's. And this is valuable for me because I'm setting up my 08 KLR. Got a Big Gun exhaust and k&n filter. Getting decel pops and idle mixture screw won't give me more flow. Running 2 turns , don't hear any increments. When I reach 3 1/2 turns, the bike shutdown. Let's do it 👍

I’ve been working on small engines (ATVs, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, etc.) for the better part of 9 years and learned a lot of what I know through trial and error. The absolute best lesson I have ever witnessed on the topic of carburetors! Introducing all the "players" at the beginning so as to establish a vocabulary was a classic instructional technique. Taking the time to explain not only the purpose of each part but how their functions were related was superb! The cause and effect scenarios for rich and lean and how to remedy the situation for a near perfect stoichiometric ratio were exemplary! You have a gift for taking what can be a very complex topic and making it easy to understand so that others can put the information to use with successful results!!!

Just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how much this video has changed my thinking. I have NEVER tuned a carb before… not even a clue of where to begin. I watched this video 4 or 5 times, and tore my brand new NAVI apart yesterday. I live in Denver, and feel like it was not tuned well from the dealer. I also put a intake and filter on it to remove the massive air box. I am feeling more confident and informed. I bought a “jet kit” for the intake and decided to “figure it out myself.” I feel like it is getting better, and with a little more trial and error, I will get it. I don’t think I would have even attempted without this video. Thanks for putting together such a great resource for the community. I hope to make it by your shop soon. Thanks again!!!

Gotta say I really appreciate the level of detail. I just cleaned my 4 carbs and took the opportunity to re-jet my 2007 Yamaha RSV because I added Monster Ovals and K&N air filters last year. Since then, the bike only ran at 1/4 choke (Mikuni plungers). When I tore them down, all the jets were clear, but the float needle gaskets seats' seals were hardened and started leaking which is why I did the job. Went up from 15 to 20 on the pilot jets and from 115 to 122.5 on main jets in the front banks and from 123 to 125 on rear banks. (Something like that. Can't remember the exact original size on the rears. I still have all the original parts though). Set pilot screw at 3 1/4 turns. Got it put back together, and she started right up with little initiall choke and ran strong at cruise speed or WOT but was getting afterfire and a little flame on the left pipe during deceleration, which I didn't mind much. Actually liked it, but didn't want it ruining anything or fouling the plugs. Fast forward to 2 days later and it wouldn't run long on cold start. Choke didn't help but actually wouldn't run at all nor start with choke. So now after watching this video, I'm thinking I may have to lean out the idle circuit as I have a sightings better understanding

YOO thank you my guy 🙏 just rebuilt the carb on my 1990 Suzuki DR250S but I was having some trouble tuning it, found this video and got the idle and fuel screw "set". But during the test ride i was stumbling at around 5k rpm when I full throttled it, and acceleration was poor overall. So I came back and watched more of the video and your test rides, and thats when it clicked. I checked and sure enough, my old main jet was bigger then the one I got in the rebuild kit. Since the main jet didn't necessarily need replacing, and i learned about the float bowl drain giving access to it, i was able to quickly rotate it, swap the jets, put it all back and just like that the bike is running good again. Long story short, while its been running and rideable, ive been troubleshooting, working on, and riding around many issues during this restoration project for the past 3 weeks, and just to top it off its my first bike lol so thanks again for helping me with this crucial step in the project! Next up are some proper enduro tires (currently has motoX) then a Trail Tech head unit and turn signals. Best of luck everyone, and ride safe 🤘

Thank you for all the time amd effort you put in to make this video. I thought I already knew how carbs worked and how to set them up and tune them. This video let me understand how my turning of screws actually altered how the carb functioned. I came across this video as the top You Tube recommendation after watching a video by Dustin of the "Smarter Every Day" channel. He had built a working see through Carburettor and uses a high speed camera To show how the carb uses the venturi principle to mix the fuel and air for to the engine to use. All though he had the choke and throttle on his see through Carburettor his video only showed the principles and not a real life carb. But by watching his video and then yours it gives a perfect understanding of the carbs working principles and then yours shows how those principles translate onto a proper engines Carburettor, what all the screws control and how to use them to tune the carb to its full potential. Both videos I think were brilliantly made, easy to watch, well thought out and turned a fiddly job into something much easier to do. Thank you for all the time and thought you put into creating a perfect mix of a good quality video and great subject and educational content. Keep up the amazing work, you just got a like, subscription and a notification bell ring. I'm now going to look at the videos you have made previously and probably binge out on them for a good while. Thanks again.

Thank you. With this video I was able to tinker with my 80CC four stroke bike engine. It was giving me 15 mph and the motor was bogging. We tuned the carb, got a better exhaust and changed the sprocket for a bigger one more top speed but sacrificed acceleration. Now it easily reaches up to 20mph.

I am so happy you broke this down. I bought a Yamaha Virago 750 two years ago and did some cleanup including rebuilding the carbs and I know it can run better. Now I know just what to do. Thank you!

The front cylinder exhaust is almost non existing at idle but normal at cruising. Then when I get up to 65mph I am losing a cylinder which comes back when I slow slightly. This is a result of bad tuning, correct?

To be honest, for a beginner this is something to always come back and reference from. The skill will set in over time but this is really informative. I also learnt to be careful with gas on that "o" ring when you opening your carb. I also learnt that backfiring is not "rich" but "lean"... lol that really helps to know.

Guess this video has been up for a while now, but glad I found it. My stock crf125 carb doesn't have all of the adjustment screws in the video but this will still help me wrap my head around what is going on with air and fuel in there. Thanks!

A friend shared this on Facebook. Well done 👍! I'm 58 and have been messing with engines probably from around 7-10 years old. I've blindly "adjusted" carbs, and kinda gotten things to run okay. New Sub.

I was looking into adjusting my fuel, because my vehicle uses too much fuel, but it also comes in with the aftermarket pipes and race carb filters. But it looks like I may have to change my stock pipes before doing so. Your video helped me understand more of what I need to do, however I will need to wait for some parts to go along with it.... Not only 1 cylinder, but this is for a triple. I assume it's the same, but I'll be sure to check the correct factory settings for the particular engine. Thank you, sir. I'll recommend your video to my buddies on carb adjustments for sure!
