My god !!! I never knew this existed and I'll be 76 next week (August 2023). First time I hear that Brian, in addition to every other instrument he played, could play the harp ! Most of the photographs were unknown to me, too. Theyre beautiful. This is a gorgeous video and finding this performance after all the years since I first heard or saw the Stones, in 1963, is exhilarating. Thank you for posting this; you did a great job of producing this amazing video. What an unbelievable birthday present this turned out to be for me. Thanks again, from the bottom of my heart !

Mellotron, oboe, harmonica (the "other" harp), recorder, flute, piano, organ, harpsichord, oh, and lest we forget, guitar and slide guitar. Brian's mellotron work on "2000 Light Years from Home" and other songs was highly praised. Many keyboard and electronics nerds of the era said that the mellotron, a cumbersome instrument that was basically a cabinet with analogue tapes arranged inside and attached to a keyboard, was an instrument that frequently broke down even when operated correctly, but that Brian worked it like a charm. He won praise from Michael Pinder, the keyboardist/mellotronist of The Moody Blues, who was considered the master of the instrument in '60s London (before the emergence of other prog rock bands).

@@williardbillmore5713You are correct. Unfortunately, a premature demise sometimes ensures a legacy that has nothing to do with reality, as can be verified by all the upvotes for the OP ridiculous comment. @@williardbillmore5713 You are wrong. Brian Jones in 1966 composed, produced and played on the soundtrack of the movie A Degree of Murder. There were also 4 songs that Brian wrote that were recorded between Oct 1963 and January 1964, but for whatever reason were not released. So he was able to compose music. Don't believe me? Look it up. I did.

@@rebeccahernandez3460 I have tried many times to listen to the aforementioned sound track, but I could never get to far into it before it bored me tto death. it was unimaginative without theme nor emotion. From what I have read from those many people who contributed to this aimless directionless ramble. Jones actually had little to do with any real composition and he really just played some harmonica that was not blues and was reminiscent of an American TV dog food commercial with a western flavor to it. As for the other supposed unreleased Brian songs that no one has ever heard there is most likely a very good reason why they are kept out of public. As Mick said, they were never developed and they were just not very good to start with... I stand by my comment that Brian never had an original musical idea in his entire career..

He had recorded the Pipes players of Joujouka in Morocco, and released a wonderful album of their music. He would have gone all the way, and created a new genre. The Mo-rock. Boom boom! No, I am serious. He had an abiding interest in North African, Arabic, Indian, Flamenco music and Jazz. He could play any instrument he looked at. On Organ. It would surprise me if that was Nicky Hopkins. It sounds way too simplistic for his level of playing. It would also surprise me if it was Ian Stewart. Stewart was strictly a "boogie woogie" style pianist. Stewart refused to play piano on Wild Horses because it was outside his style. Never mind this song which is even more outside Stewart's musical realm. Bill Wyman is credited with playing Organ on "In another Land" I would guess it is him and Keith is actually playing bass. Then again, they are obviously just playing around in the studio on this recording so I suppose all bets are off.

Jones spread himself too thin and lost touch with the guitar. To a lesser extent the same is true of George Harrison-luckily Hendrix, Clapton and Ravi Shankar talked Harrison into refocusing on the guitar. Unlike Harrison, Jones didn’t have the writing chops or he could’ve remained in the Stones.
@steveconn4 жыл бұрын
Harrison just added sitar to Beatles albums; Jones added sitar, marimba, dulcimer, mellotron, a whole symphony of new color to Stones songs, all by himself. Brian was a thousand times more creative a musician than George. But his drug arrests (many planted) made it impossible for him to tour with the Stones, which they financially needed, so he was fired.
@HEADLINEZOO4 жыл бұрын
steve conn Harrison brought the sitar to western music and Jones copied him. The Stones fired Jones because he lost touch with the guitar-he didn’t grow with the band and was a subpar lead guitarist. He obviously didn’t have the songwriting chops of Harrison to compensate for his poor guitar work so they sacked him. Harrison had a great run in the early seventies post Beatles.

In my opinion, Brian Jones was really the founder of the Rolling Stones, but he was also the fifth wheel in the cart, he was on his own, he was on his own and had no influence on the music of the group. He interfered with everyone - both with his antics and with his low professional skill. He was tolerated out of greed until he bored everyone with his unsubstantiated ambitions. This is just my opinion.

Jones dabbled on a handful of instruments but he never "Mastered " any of them. His best instrument was the rhythm guitar and he was mediocre at that, at best. He quit the guitar when he figured out that he could never be the star of a guitar band with Keith Richards in it. That is when he insisted on playing these odd instuments so that when he played along woth Keith and ick's songs he would be the "featured instrumentalist". He really wasn't very talented and he could not improvise to save his life.
