I love how every time someone speaks in character, the rest of the cast holds back smiles at how much fun they are having. One of the best sessions RollPlay has ever had.

Freaking WORD COMBAT Seriously this dice system is super clever, interesting how adding a bit more "game" to the actual die rolling can give a bunch more story as well

I must preface this by saying that I LOVE this series, and am so happy I can use this wonderful session to make my group finally play Dogs!! But the nitpicking Wild West nerd in me has to say: 1) The red cross was not a symbol of medicine in the mid-19th century 2) a modestly clad Mormon woman in church would not have any of her beautiful (and distracting) hair showing 3) drinking tea is as sinful as coffee or smoking tobacco amongst the Latter Day Saints.

Fnorder23 In DitV, it is stated that the King's Faithful are allowed herbal teas, but not black tea.

David Phillips Of course, The King of Life is not God the Father, the Faithful are not Latter Day Saints, and the West is not the West. But having played Deadlands since middle school I just had to chime in :) Johan Kristian Milde Yes, if it's not camellia sinensis and therefore has no caffeine, then it's allowed - both in the Faith and among the Saints.

you got me on 1) and as for 2) have you seen the rest of the episode or the prep show? 3) it's a bit different from irl.

Again, this is by no means criticism - I totally get that Dogs is a fantasy/alt setting and even if it wasn't there's no way or point in making settings ultra-realistic. Aiming for excessive "realism" can potentially make a setting too alien for players and audiences to feel comfortable - like L.P. Hartley said, "the past is a foreign country". I really did not mean to object to anything, just note the things that came to my mind and might be mildly interesting tidbits about the Frontier to people. Regarding no. 2) by the way, I may be still having an allergic reaction to that recent "Magnificent Seven" remake where they tried to establish a strong, independent female character by making her a vengeful widow dressed in clothes more revealing than any saloon gal would dare to wear :P ;) I *love* your take on Dogs and the West Adam, and can't wait for the rest of the show!

the one shot concept should probably be refined a little if it takes 2 hours to start the game and then leaves 2 hours to actually play.

They could try character creation a day earlier, film it, and then the next day play.
@TwoToneShoes8 жыл бұрын
It's already hard enough to schedule such industry greats as Tycho, Matt, and Austin. One day's all they get. Most RPGs are meant for more than one session and character creation (especially in Baker's games) is in depth and chararcterful. It's a concession we have to make and we still got an amazing show out of it.

I mean, they probably won't be one-shots, they're doing a second episode of Masks, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see this crew back together once or twice next year to keep playing this game.

I was so excited to get to actual play and I come in to this description of title music that doesn't exist because Adam apparently believes roleplaying games as a medium can't just exist as roleplaying games. I'm not sure if this has become a more prominent crutch of his or if I'm just growing less able to tolerate it.

J.T. Seusoff describing a score is a great way to set the tone as a GM. I see no reason not to use every tool to make a scene pop as much possible. Heck I typically as my players for a description of their characters' theme music, because it's cool.
@bismuthcrystal96588 жыл бұрын
I completely respect the decision to do so. I personally find it draws me out of things a great deal to hear of cutting to things and picturing title sequences. To me that doesn't make anything pop. What makes things pop to me is describing the actual scene, as my character would see it. Again, to each their own, it's just not compatible with my style. I, to a point, get it more in RollPlay - you've an audience beyond just the players to aim at. But I would not want to play with a GM who did that. Asking for characters' theme music is totally different though. And I'd happily put that theme music on. I use actual soundtracks all the time. But asking me to imagine something as a viewer of a TV show and then play as a person in a world just causes a huge dissonance and harms immersion to me.

Gaaaah, the players are so good and the setting is so cringeworthy
