the numbers don't add up. Adam said that there were 5 people on the platform, with around 4 on the bridge and then a few others. The Black Aurora has a crew of 15. 6 are dead (boarding party, technician) one is with Sicarian, Then there are 5 on the platform. That is 12 out of 15 accounted for. there can only be 3 on the ship bar Sicarains little friend.
@ImperialGuardsman7410 жыл бұрын
I think he meant 15+boarding party. Which means 5 guys are still unaccounted for.

Quick question: Doesn´t this system use ammo? Like they actually had to buy ammo for their weapons in the beginning when they bought their equiptment, right? Shouldn´t Mr. S have to reload his weapon at some point?
@ImperialGuardsman7410 жыл бұрын
Maybe because he is using a plasma projector. I don't play this system, but maybe that weapon doesn't need to reload. Nobody else fired a shot yet, so they didn't need to reload. And from a combat perspective Sicarian would have probably reloaded in the weapons room if he has to reload.
@SkidIncGaming10 жыл бұрын
All projectile and energy weapons use ammo and have a Magazine count, the Plasma Projector has a Magazine of 6 shots before he'll need to swap out the Type A energy cell, assuming they are paying attention to that.

Piani were sitting in the bridge of the swansong having to traverse the distance from the bridge to the exit point and then from the exit to the meetup where JP drove a forklift to. Ramirez had to crawl from the meetup to the exit of his ship. Also take into consideration that JP drove to the meetup and ramirez walked, making it possible that the meetingpoint were closer to the enemy ship.

K, so I'm a little under half way though, is it bad that I'm hoping they get completely obliterated for what they are trying to pull off? ^_^
@ImperialGuardsman7410 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. Sicarian is probably going to take out the 2 remaining soldiers on board then massacre the engineer crew.
@SkidIncGaming10 жыл бұрын
ImperialGuardsman74 It would only take one good shot from ether of the 2 soldiers fighting Sicarian to bring him down, only Crude Pistols, Laser Pistol and Semi-automatic Pistols have a max damage less then 8. Plus there are probably a couple more people on the ship as someone must be manning the gun. Also the dome is venting, sooner or later they are going to be trapped on there current ships, if Sicarian doesn't make a run for it he'll be stuck there, and the Swan Song will no longer have a way to get to him.
@ImperialGuardsman7410 жыл бұрын
Skid-Inc Gaming They need to hit him and roll a 4 or higher. They have weapons that deal D8 damage. So even if they hit him, they have only a 52.5% chance to kill him. And their chance to hit is like 35% So they only got what, like an 18% chance to kill him. So lets say Sicarian kills this guy with the next shot(he has like a 40-something % chance to do so) it means that he only has an 18% chance to die. This means he is a slight favourite in this engagement. Maybe the engineers will be armed but they won't be disciplined in their actions and won't have their weapons ready
@ImperialGuardsman7410 жыл бұрын
Skid-Inc Gaming Hell, the most likely outcome is that the whole party survives. Considering the pirates are no at a total of 7 capable crew, 1 captive on the aurora, i think 1 captive on the swan and 1 crippled Ramirez. Which means just to pilot their ship they need the entirety of the ones that aren't fighting Victarian to stay alive
@SkidIncGaming10 жыл бұрын
ImperialGuardsman74 Actually it's a fair fight at this point, his only advantage is his initiative roll, your working on the assumption he hits and kills on his next attack. If he misses, that's two chances to hit him, with a 50% chance he'll die on a success. But even if he does kill them, the Swan Song can't take another hit from the Black Aurora gun, and Adam basically said that they are trying to flee. So if Sicarian stays and fights he's highly likely to end up being stranded on that ship.
@jianyang86010 жыл бұрын
Why not take the pirate ship and sell it? It'll certainly go a long way to paying off the swan song.

Wait, the pirate doesn't fail even though he rolled lower than 14, that doesn't seem right at all. And this is without the benefit of a thousand years or tech.

I think the notion behind the sand cannon being an anti-fighter weapon is not that the impact of the sand damages them. The sand gets sucked into their engines and destroys the engines. Against people it would probably not be lethal unless you were pretty close to explosion, though it may well blind and lacerate out to a greater distance. On earth, if you fire a shotgun, that's only effective out to about 40 or 50 feet. Beyond that, depending on the shell, a denim jacket will probably stop the pellets. Sand is much smaller than those pellets - unless sand is a euphemism here. Beyond that, every forklift ever made by mankind involves a 2000 lb chunk of iron on the back end for balance (and that's bare minimum smallest forklift). If Higgs could have put that between him and the explosion he'd be fine. I feel like these guys are seriously misunderstanding how that sand cannon works. But it's too bad they couldn't have just disabled the plasma cannon coolant and done the exchange. Those pirates would book it if they had no weapon. It's an interesting effect of 'real world' games like this and shadowrun, it's hard for the party to judge the difficulty of their enemies in many cases. If you're a party of 1st levelers in D&D, you know you don't go fighting trolls. It's suicide. Less clear cut when you're fighting people.
@robins.135310 жыл бұрын
I'm quite convinced Sandthrower is kind of a pejorative term, as in "tiny ass projectiles compared to other shipmounted guns", not literal sand. In the weapon description it says it's "effective against lightly-armored fighters", I would read that as "only effective against fighters because they are so lightly armored". I.e. the way real world flak works as well, so I'm pretty sure a person is royally fucked when they get hit by that. I'm 100% with you on the forklift though, it was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the word flak :D But that's how it is with roleplaying, I always get the most obvious ideas when it's already too late, not sure I'd have thought of it in JPs situation.
@mattmanning157210 жыл бұрын
Having never read the source material, I'll defer there. I could have swore Adam mentioned near the beginning that sand thrower ammo costs nothing because it's literal sand, but I may be mis-remembering. If it's basically a large grenade/claymore type thing, they really could have picked a better nickname.
@MarcheYT10 жыл бұрын
You have obviously never dealt with a shotgun That shit will fuck you up from a sizable range The main problem with shotguns and range is the pure luck involved with hitting the target Then multiply the power of the shotgun by X1000 and the number of projectiles being shot by x1,000,000 and you have the sand blaster
@mattmanning157210 жыл бұрын
XboxMarche I guess if by 'never dealt with' you mean 'have been hunting with since I was 8 years old, then ya, that's right. The fact that you're using "pure luck" with regard to hitting things with guns makes me wonder if your experience is anything more than passing.

Ok, I just found this series. Well after it's ended apparently. I was hoping for a true old school game where if characters do dumb things they die, and where if characters do good things but get unlucky, they die. After all, this is basically old school D&D in space. Instead, we get a ship's weapon which can destroy fighters not obliterating everyone in an enclosed space. And we get the dumbest, most trusting crew of pirates ever. I don't care if someone has a southern drawl and sounds like Higgs does, I can't imagine any group of pirates entering a ship that's not their own without having guns drawn and pointed at people. Plus, I would imagine that the pirate ship has sensors better than the Swan Song or at least equivalent. How would they not know where everyone on the Swan Song was before they went on board? And internal sensors should be able to detect if someone had a bomb... Yeah, I understand... it's just a game and stuff like this happens in games, but this episode really stretched my suspension of disbelief. Geoff would drive me nuts as a GM. It's one thing to question something, it's another to question every single thing. Most annoying thing to me (outside of the sandblaster) was the guy running away and him saying "Really?" as if there was something wrong with the game system that wouldn't give him a bonus to shoot him in the back. Second most annoying thing was the 'perception check'. I have problems imagining which way my attic or basement is laid out in relation to the other floors when I have time to think about it. Maybe I'm spatially challenged, but I'm pretty sure that running into an enclosed space during combat, on an unfamiliar ship, that most people would quickly have no idea where they were. I think I'll still enjoy this, but not sure I'll make it all the way through... We'll see.
@ancapftw91137 жыл бұрын
Yeah. A game that literally warns that your characters will die if you get in over your head, but the GM lets you live after getting sandblasted? A normal sandblaster can cut through skin at a few centimeters, but this is a ship based weapon that fires it with enough force to damage a ship's hull at several kilometers away. So yeah, he is chunky paste now, with most of those chunks being his armor.

@ArcMinuteLight10 жыл бұрын
Well the AK-47 was never known for amazing accuracy; even some later versions seem to suffer the same problem. In combat the gun that actually hits, usually wins the day; out-ranging the other guns also helps.
@brandoncowan902910 жыл бұрын
Arclight Yeah, but you can drag a AK through mud, use it as a club, then put a magazine through the thing without issue. The gun that doesn't jam also has a good chance to win the day. And if you use semi-auto, like you should for most situations, you can shoot pretty accurately.
@brandoncowan90299 жыл бұрын
La Nausée And then you have to take into consideration what ever techniques they have come across that make guns more reliable and accurate. Shit we haven't thought of trying yet. Then you have futuristic ballistics. Who knows what ballistic characteristics those rounds have? If they are using better materials to make the gun, they can use hotter and hotter loads. Think the difference between black powder and smokeless. I personally a fan of using ballistic weapons even in the far future. Nothing hurts quite like a metal slug in your chest.

Adam why... That was so... Hig's DIED. The GM himself did silly rules lawyer stuff by claiming the rules dont exactly describe this exact situation in minuet detail, even tho similar examples say its INSTANT DEATH, you LIVE! ... Come on, he died, its just the fact. But whatever, GM says he lived so he lived... Neal would have killed him out right... Funny thing is: What happened in the 5.0 one off... but i guess its because Swan song is supposed to be a long series that the character lives when he should have died. I have lost all sense of tension. While watching this i was on the edge of my seat! this setting is very dangerous and the situation the party was in was very precarious, it was tense... And not anymore. Now i know they wont die, nomatter what happens. Lame. Ahwell, its still a great show. And i am enjoying it! But not nearly as much as i did before this happened. Not even close. :(

I gotta agree. Sandthrowers do ship level damage, but grav tanks only do normal damage. Sand throwers can take out grav tanks, but normal guns can't. And it specifically said "hit by the main gun of a grav tank". And then there's the fact that the rulebook even warns you that you can die very easily if you get in over your head. He should be switching characters because his character is a chunky spray on the floor of the docking bay.
