A car you can buy; a yacht you can buy; a palace you can buy but class, that you cannot buy. Either you have it or not. We are surrounded by crowds of very affluent people but unfortunately very few, if any, has class. By the way, what a beautiful car. Now imagine a rapper and his woman riding it.

As a Silver Shadow owner, a Rolls-Royce is not just a mere car. It is a well-built and well engineered machine, handmade by some of Britain's most skilled hands, and timeless in its design and build; a 1972 model like mine is still well respected, and still a wondrous machine worthy of being called "the greatest car in the world". It actually angers me that people would buy a Royce for the image alone; these people likely have no class themselves, and need to rely on the class of a Rolls-Royce, for the unworthy cause of either looking rich, or flaunting money.

@lordsnivyofnottingham2948

Michael Tarantino Something may eventually break (like any machine), but, with Rolls Royce build quality, and proper care and regular maintenance on my end, this is mitigated greatly. Plus, individual parts are not nearly as expensive as you would think (though, granted, still more expensive than, say, parts for a Rover SD1). Besides, a Rolls-Royce is not a Morris Marina; they and and were carefully designed and built by people that actually care(d) about their jobs.
@lordsnivyofnottingham2948
@lordsnivyofnottingham2948 8 жыл бұрын
bootnsoot I don't mind the attention, though this isn't my intent as her owner. Rather, I would prefer owners actually understand why a Rolls-Royce is an excellent machine, and buy them because they are fine machines, and not because of the brand alone. It does Rolls-Royce a disservice, by giving them an image of being overpriced status symbols instead of quality, handcrafted machines worth their price tag. Also leads to abuse of unfortunate Royces by disreputable owners, too (and Chevy swaps are undignified travesties).

+SirSnivy ofNottingham There are flukes and things that were unknown and even by many simple consumers that actually owned some cars. The RR you speak of is good! Especially good if it has the cast iron 415 V8. But how would it shock a person as yourself to know this engineer (me) can tell you that cadillacs v8 from 1959 to 1979 in their full sized cars is built better and can last longer than the RR. They were built to last one million miles or 3 generations if maintaned, but the american public is STUPID and are the most destructive people in the world as well as GM made the bodies sheet metal to where they rusted to death by 10 years on average. Imagine that? Wasted engineering. A one million mile engine in the junk yard because of idiots at around 120,000 miles. It was over engineered for the car it was placed in

i feel that these cars (rollers and bentleys) are not the typical kind of car. you don't buy this over a ferrari and you don't buy a ferrari over this. these kinds of cars are at the top of the charts in their specific playing field. they don't compete with the likes of aston and ferrari even though the wraith is technically a gt. no there are cars that come from a sporting background and there are are cars that come from a luxury background. either way all cars mix different aspects together to create a very specific driving experience. i feel that the astons and the jags are sporty in order to compete with the italians and the germans, where as these cars do not compete with anyone because they are so unique. the rollers are pure luxury, they have grunt but the emphasis is on being luxurious and its delivery of power emulates the ideals although they are powerful. a bentley is more of a car like the rolls that comes from a luxury background but its blended with performance, not sport mind you. but huge power and a fairly good chassis to corner in. but its not beating any lightweight lotus around a track for example. i found the difference between rolls and bentley for me is that rollers are cruisers where as bentleys are bruisers much like old school american muscle cars. except its the british lords hot rod not the bankers hot rod.

Actually, Rolls-Royce have always offered two classes of cars. The Corniche is an example of the smaller, more everyday model, built alongside the Phantom models which represented the grander cars. In fact, the Phantom IV, of the forties and fifties, built alongside the Silver Dawn model, was exclusive to heads of state (apart from the second chassis, which was built into a pickup for factory use).

Morgan is very much is an all British car, and you could argue as it's still British owned that it's more British than RR. However, its size will always limit its ability to be considered the ultimate British car though imho. The debate about whether or nor Jaguar is still British rages on.

You have to have driven one, kept one or be the keeper of one to fully appreciate the craftsmanship and rich legacy. I am not a wealthy person, but I am the custodian of a Shadow. It is British motoring history and a work of exquisite art. We never actually "own" them, we are just their keeper for a brief period of time compared to how long a Rolls-Royce will itself survive, if properly maintained. Most owners sacrifice many other things in life, just to enjoy the experience, no matter how short lived.

You have a point but I think it's fair to say that modern Bentley is still very different to pre Rolls-Royce Bentley. When they were bought out, Bentley had dominated Le Mans and really was a racing brand. The Continental GT is a step in right direction, but it's still a luxury GT. However with Bentley getting back into racing they might get back there again.

Sure they weren't built for speed, but they were pretty damn fast cars, that 6.75litre v8 even though pulling along 2.3tons was more than a match for all but the big boy's. I've driven but never owned one myself, I've had an xj6 4.2 that I found equally as smooth and possibly a little quicker as well, that's down to it's more advanced straight 6 cylinder ohc engine vs the older ohv rolls Royce block, it gave a similar level of luxury to me at a fraction of the running costs, making it useable. My guess is the 40 year old rolls Royce in this video has less than 40k on the clock, my xj6 was close to 200,000 miles when I had it and still ran whisper quiet

One may buy that which some may deem a classy car, but no, one cannot, for love nor money, buy class.
