Mr Hewes, Joe have you considered a generic engine pack? A drop in engine solution for those old museum pieces that can no longer move under their own power because the engine is beyond repair at a reasonable piece. Yeah I don’t have a clue. But after watching a lot of your videos it looks like you need horsepower in a form that can be adapted to fit just a few different tanks. Doesn’t need to fit bulletproof military specifications, just applied torque and horsepower. Easy peasy, feel free to run with it.

A supercharger in a 2 stroke diesel plays a role in scavenging exhaust gases from the cylinder. It has something to do with the over lapping of the intake and exhaust ports. Back in the 80s My dad would drag me to junk yards to look for superchargers off of Detroit Diesels, Hence the term 671 blower, they came off a a Detroit 2 stroke 6-71 engines. They made great cheap supper chargers for drag racing and hot rods and not a boxter engine but a opposed piston set up and damn do they sound awesome when they are running in the power band. I remember as a kid seeing a huge 12 cylinder opposed piston engine from a WWII US sub. This old timer had it set up on a trailer and would bring it out to run at the local tractor shows and such it was a sight to see. The pistons where the size of Ted.

Two Stroke Diesel engines, lots of Torque and plenty of quick reves with a great sound... Whats not to like other than the Heat exchanger...
@slateslavens2 ай бұрын
The Detroit Diesel engines of the day were similar. They needed the "supercharger" to run as well. On the DD motors, they produced 1psi and were called "blowers". It was just enough to force air into the cylinders as the pistons came down past the intake ports in the cylinder walls.
@tflemming2872 ай бұрын
Yes. Just for ‘scavenging’, as it was called. A moment when both inlet and are exhaust are open and the blower purges out the exhaust.

@scrumpydrinker2 ай бұрын
All 2 strokes require some form of forced ventilation to get them to run, typically on the basic 3 port 2 stroke this was achieved by the action of the piston working with an air tight crankcase. On the compression stroke the piston would move upwards creating a low pressure in the crankcase which would pull the air/fuel mix in. As the piston descended on the power stroke this would increase the pressure in the crankcase pushing the air/fuel mix into the cylinder when the transfer port was uncovered. This is necessary as on a 2 stroke the induction and exhaust phases occur simultaneously, with the piston at about BDC when this happens there isn’t the piston movement to make this happen. On the diesel engine blowers are required for this to happen, they can also be fitted with turbochargers as well but will always have a blower fitted to them. Using a blower also allows the use of a conventional lubrication system which will cut down on the exhaust smoke. As you are only pushing air into the cylinder you can easily increase the airflow through the cylinder to give effective scavenging as the fuel isn’t injected into the cylinder until it’s required. One point that seem to confuse people is that the the blower is always on the induction side and is always pushing clean air into the engine, it seems that quite a few people think that the role of the blower is to suck the exhaust gases out, this isn’t so as you don’t route hot and dirty exhaust gases through a piece of precision equipment.

The view of the fuel line at the end was the money shot! i'll argue you on the modulator for the trans, on cars it's called the TV or throttle valve. essentially driver input to the trans, if the gearbox actuator does not have a return than the governor must internally relieve pressure. with any returnless system, regulation is done by supply. "dumb" actuator.
