Here's an interesting fact for you - This movie is the most profitable movie EVER MADE based on it's original budget, it started as an Independent movie and was made for only $15,000, the movie was acquired by Paramount pictures and the producers were given an additional $200k to create a new ending to the movie but overall the movie made $194 million, which is why they made an additional 6 movies in the series

Seeing this in a big quiet theater was freaking fantastic! Gosh darn did it deliver the scares. Plus, there were no credits at the end of the movie, the lights just came up in the auditorium; so darn cool, and definitely added to the feel of the movie.

At 21:00 - that was actually an episode of Star Trek - TNG, the crew wasn't getting any sleep and they started going crazy, it was called "Night Terrors" - Season 4 - Ep 17

The big mystery of this film is not ghosts- it's how the hell these 21 year olds afford this awesome house when she doesn't even have a job..........................

Also, probably wasn’t in the edit of the movie on this channel, but when she asks how much the camera costed, Micah said it was half of what he earns in a day

Spoiler from the 2nd movie about this, but it was implied there that their grandma (Katie and Kristi's) made a deal with a demon for wealth and money and in exchange had to forfeit the first born male in her bloodline, which is explored in PA2. Even tho in the 3rd movie they took a different direction with the grandmother, but the money can be explained from the deal with the demon since it seems all of their family are very well off money wise.

Having your bunny is relatable. Usually children will have gad various soft toys as a kid like teddy bears but i dont recall i was that type of kid. Hiwever i do remember i was afraid of the dark especially inside my bedroom as a child, having my rampant imagination scaring me at the slughtest of unexpected sounds or noises and seeing more things than that were actually there e.g. silhouettes of clothes against a chair looking like a person or creature towering at the end of the bed. As an adult ❤ the Paranormal Activity and amazed how much mileage they got out of the franchise. Reminds me of Final Destination franchise too - as in both film series did well in their own way. And as an teen and adult, i have collected various soft toys over the years so let me grab one now as we watch together, for some, rewatch P.A. and re-live those flying popcorn out of out of the containers moments from when we saw this at a cinema theater...😮

👻👻👻 A movie that keeps you interested from beginning to the end. It shows you how much you can do with so little. Katie's story continues in paranormal activity 2. If you decide to do that one be sure to have you're bunny ready.

Made for 15k, grossed nearly 200.million USD. AND IT REMAINS SCARIER THAN ALL THE SLASHER FRANCHISES COMBINED!! No cheap jump scares, this is a new way of telling the oldest horror of all: the ghost story. And the ghost story IS the oldest horror story of all but how to make it fresh and scary again? The 2000s tried remaking films from the 1950s with lots of gore and flash but all that appeared onscreen was....an autopsy with Christmas lights and clown horns. Credit this movie for breathing life into a dead genre...even if they did switch ghost to demon. Same diff. I mean, when was the last scary ghost story on film? The Shining? Maybe. But it was a box office and critical dud, reinvented by the internet and all the obsessives who saw and found Kubrick's numerous continuity errors and read profundity into them. Before The Shining? Go back to the fifties. Para took the minimalist approach, took it seriously and was so rewarded no one had to work again.

I saw this one when it came out and.. well, just let's say it isn't my personal favourite. That said, always fun to watch Oliver's reactions, and his enthusiasm for film is contagious.

The Blair Witch Project came out in 1999, The Last Broadcast came out in 1998 (it was about The Jersey Devil), The McPherson Tape came out in 1989 (it is about aliens). Then, between 1985 and 1989, several movies came out in the Guinea Pig universe. They were very disturbing, and in 1980 Cannibal Holocaust came out. Cannibal Holocaust is widely considered one of the most disturbing movies ever made. The director was actually brought into an Italian Court and had to prove his actors were still alive, that they had not been killed during the making of the movie. It has some really graphic parts and contains a scene or two that have what many would consider animal cruelty.
