Of course speed is important but speed itself in football is useless if it isn’t complemented with technique and ball retention. Of course in this clip there are many goals R9 scored by running in from behind, but there are also many goals that he scored having to weave his way through a compact defence. Just ask the likes of Maldini,Nesta and Canavaro whom were the best defenders not only in that league but in the world whom all have said he was an absolute nightmare to defend against. Maldini said he couldn’t sleep the night before facing Ronaldo. Nesta said he was straight up too good for him,his own words were I didn’t possess the skill set to stop him I wasn’t good enough. If a defender is big and strong he’d beat you with pace and skill and it a defender is quick and agile he’d just bulldoze his way through you. A 32 year old VVD and a 39 year old Thiago Silva have been able to contain Haaland whereas the best defenders on the planet in their peak were not able to contain Ronaldo. Haaland is a good striker but nothing we haven’t seen as standard in other strikers,whereas Ronaldo (pre injury) was an absolute prodigy that no one had seen anything like him since Maradona. Ronaldo is in the same bracket as legends like Maradona,Messi,Zidane ect I can’t believe I’m even debating this.
