I believe if you do not dampen the brick before hand that the brick will want to suck all the moisture of the lime wash into the porous brick and then you would need more coats applied to obtain the look your going for? It's like super gluing a piece of ceramic that has broken off your favorite china cup...first you apply drops of water to the broken areas of the china cup and you'll see that the water is then sucked into the porous ceramic then you apply your super glue and hold the broken pieces together (IF YOU DONT ADD THE WATER FIRST THEN THE PIECES WILL NOT BIND TOGETHER CORRECTLY) . Now you've made a secure binding of those pieces.....so I'm thinking this is the same idea with the porous brick your trying to attach the lime wash permanently to. My understanding is that the difference from paint (which will peel and flake eventually) is that the lime wash does not peel or flake off, it virtually becomes one with the brick. Just reach out to the manufacturer with an email and ask and I'm sure they'll happily tell you what is the purpose of the pre-dampening of the brick before applying the wash. It's always good to know why your doing what your doing. Good luck everyone and Happy New Year!

How has this paint held up over time?? I was kind of worried about like mold growth staining since no sealer was applied. I plan on going this route for our house as well, looks great and alot of great info too. I appreciate it. Keep it up!!

This product is phenomenal! Easy to apply and doesn’t need sealer or primer.

Were your bricks painted or bare before you added the limewash?
@ThisisHardlife Жыл бұрын
They were bare. Almost a year later and still looks great on my brick!

A much less expensive solution for limewashing your brick home is to make your own limewash. Buy a bag of hydrated lime from the big box store and mix with water. That is the original limewash method. Cost me less than $10 to do my entire ranch style brick home. Did it 5 years ago and still looks great. Paying for the commercial product is such a waster of money.

What color is it if you do it that way?
@v055741 Жыл бұрын
White. It is the original way of whitewashing.

That's great if you want plain white, but not if you want to tint the wash. Unless you do the entire batch at one time you likely won't have a consistent color.

Did you do anything special before using sprayer (different tip or filter)? Thanks!
@ThisisHardlife2 жыл бұрын
Nope I did not. I actually bought it brand new and just used the tip that was on it.

I looked at their GRAY and thought.,...Umm, that is not even a cold tint, let alone a gray. So I got the Blanco, and plan to tint it myself. Bauwerks has much more color options.
