@@HoneyandMe I made mine from fabric I was given, having only had to purchase back... which was a light flannel from Hobby Lobby. What I am finding is the shades haven't learned where I want them to fold and requires shaping by hand when lifting. I made 4 shades and have one to go, as soon as I receive more rings. Even with the fussy lift / fold, I really like them. One thing that I tried on the last two I made... instead of sewing the rings with back towards the sewer, I pinched the ring between layers and sewed from the front. Having big clumsy hands and older eyes, sewing is a challenge. I don't suppose I can post a pic?
@HoneyandMe
@HoneyandMe 3 жыл бұрын
Congratulations on your blinds!! I can only think that the fabrics you used may be of a lighter weight which would make it take longer for the fabric to ‘learn.’ The folds. If it is a pain and needs more help, you could try adding some very light dowling to the back of the blinds where the folds should be. You can hot glue them in place, so no sewing needed. I’m so glad that regardless you are pleased with them! Great idea sewing the rings on through the front. Good adapting! I’d love to see your results. My email is littleshackonthehill@gmail.com if you’d like to send me photos! Take care and thanks so much for sharing your results😁👍

Looks good. Maybe a middle set of ringsso you don’t have to mess with it .
@HoneyandMe
@HoneyandMe 4 жыл бұрын
You could certainly add a middle set of rings, but this blind works great without too. It just needs use to 'memorize' the folds. The wider ones you definitely need more rings. The ones I have on the bigger windows have 4 rows. Thanks for watching and leaving a helpful comment!

Great job! Were you worried about drilling into the wall? I’ve never done that before. Right now I have a shower tension rod holding up a drape over the door for light and insulation. Maybe I can tweak that to attach the Roman blinds and avoid drilling holes. Thanks for your awesome tutorial.
@HoneyandMe
@HoneyandMe 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carrie! I did measure the wall and made sure to use a screw that wouldn't poke through on the outside. lol! With the thickness of the wood at the top of the blind included, it was still a fairly long screw. They have held firmly after 5 years of use. Not knowing what is above your windows where the blinds would need to attach, but if you have cabinets above, you could try screwing the top of the blinds into the bottom of the cabinets. Or the ceiling if the windows are high up. You could also use those plastic wall anchors that you use to attach things to drywall. The tension rod might work, but I would be worried about the amount of strength it would have when pulling the blinds up. Worth a try for sure, though. Keep me posted as I'd love to hear how you do it. Take care!-Sue

@@CarrieMtn Lol! Yay! However you figure to attach the blinds, just be sure the eyelets to guide the pulley strings will be in a position to be free to work properly. Not sure I worded that in a way that is understandable. lol! Keep me posted!

Don't you need to have a wall anchor of some sort so that you don't pull the screws back out when you raise and lower the blinds? or did you find a stud back there. BTW I have a 92 Spirit. Love it and want to fix mine up similar to what you are doing.
@HoneyandMe
@HoneyandMe 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Deb...Nope, no anchors or studs. The interior of the walls are filled with dense styrofoam and grab the screws very well. The studs in these little rigs are aluminium. The blinds have been up for a year now and used extensively. No issues at all. Good luck with your rig!

Awesome tutorial Sue. Question: Could you use a thin layer of batting as your insulating layer? I'm thinking bedroom blinds. TFS love you big sis, Heather
@HoneyandMe
@HoneyandMe 5 жыл бұрын
thelilacmum Thanks, lil Sis! I think using batting would give the blinds a puffier look, but I’m not sure if it would insulate better or not. The flannel is a fairly inexpensive fabric, if you buy the ugly ones.😉 You can get a heavy flannel too, and if needing it for the back, you could use the back side facing out to avoid the print.-Sue

There used to be a system called "warm windows" sold in fabric stores. It was a Roman shade system and the center layer was like a thin dense batting with a mylar layer in it. Around the outside was a strip of magnetic tape. I haven't seen it for years, but I believe you can buy the insulated fabric at cozycurtains.com.

I would use thinsulate (what I use for inside potholders) in the middle...it is very thin but effective.
