The slaves were the opposers of Rome, or the enemies, even the romans selves. But for the reason that they were Opposers, against Rome, and not for freedom, but for supremacy on Rome and all its world. Slavery was the common code back then. And compared to others, Rome was very kind and considerate to their slaves - even allowing them to earn their freedom. You're making the mistake of comparing it to modern day, when slavery is extremely taboo, although not unheard of.

@ceocoryaald I asked what made Rome even remotely socialist? Socialism wasn't invented but 2000 years later. I have never heard of any even remote socialist traits in ancient rome. Now, im nto sure what you men by 'socialism'. Do you mean a communist state like USSR or a welfare state, like many european countries today which is not bad at all. Social services like universal healthcare and complimentary education are very important in my opinion. We have them in Finland(where i live).
