Everyone goes on about their love for Pullo and Vorenus, or how well-acted Antony and Octavian were, or how the show should have been longer to give the writers the opportunity to explore the civil wars in more detail and touch on the birth of Christianity. And you know, that's true and all. But I mean, you've gotta have respect for the announcer on the Roman forum! The guy's been through decades of war and unrest in and around the city, and he still delivers the news with such passion. This comment has been sponsored by the Guild of Millers. The Guild of Millers uses only the finest grain. True Roman bread for true Romans.

@Titus PulloYes He was born as Gaius Octavius ( Thurinus ). After he was adobted by Gaius Julius Caesar, He called himself Gaius Julius Caesar. Later he was given the title "Augustus" by the senate. After 27 v Chr. he was called Augustus Caesar or Caesar Augustus. Augustus means 'the exalted one'. I always call him Augustus Caesar. Yes he was the best. Or it shouldn't be, seeing as half of these characters are fictional, and many are the exact opposite of what they were like during these times. Perfect example: Mark Anthony. Seen as greedy in the show, the man himself was known to be quite generous. So no, it shouldn't be a documentary, when it has a lot of false information.
@mateuszjokiel28134 жыл бұрын
@@MCshadr217 The show is not historically accurate per se, but it's still incredibly historically authentic. From the military tactics and way of fighting of the Roman maniples, through the vibrant colours of the city of Rome itself, to the general lifestyle people at the time woud follow. As for Marc Antony, I wouldn't say he's greedy in the show. Really the only indication of that would be that he kept Caesar's money from Octavian - which he historically did - and got a bit angry when the young Caesar plunged his family into what could possibly be unpayable debt. As it were in the show, the historical Antony was also a great soldier but poor politician, as well as a complete hedonist.

What’s a little sad about Vercingetorix is he once was a compatriot if Caesar and fought for Rome. He was an able commander and chieftain and could have done much remaining in Roman service; instead he rebelled, made himself a “king” and ended up rotting in a cell for years after his defeat to eventually be brought out in chains during Caesar’s Triumph and publicly strangled to death as an offering to the gods. Wasted potential, and worse yet a wasted life..

Life is mostly a tragedy for all of us, we live, fight and struggle only at the end to see everything we once so prized getting trashed! Only in our graves only do we realize that its as King Solomon said, like "chasing the wind" nothing we hold dear in this life really survives us as our time comes to an end. But at least this Gaulic chief stood up for what he saw was right and very nearly destroyed Caesar. Wasted potential? Only at the end but he honorably gave it his all. That I might one day be so reckless as he was in devotion to a cause, but I doubt any of us reading these comments are half the man this guy once was.

I disagree. What Vercingetorix did was smart. Roman legions were scattered all around Gaul in foreign territory, Vercingetorix knew Roman tactics and regulations, Gauls were numerous and upset about the Roman occupation. It was a recipe for success. The only thing going against Vercingetorix was basically Caesar. If his opponent was an ordinary Roman general he would've won easily.
