Roman Mythology Sleep Stories: The Aeneid (ASMR)

This soft spoken ASMR video tells the story of the Aeneid and explains its historical and political significance. Join me and we will follow Aeneas on his adventures from Troy that he had to live with his son Ascanius and his father Anchises, under the protection of his mother Venus, to the Latium in Italy where a war had to be fought before Rome could be founded. Aeneas benefits from Venus' protection and Jupiter's benevolence, but hostile deities like Juno will do anything to stop him. On the way, we will visit Thrace, Delos, Crete, Epirus, Sicily, Carthage and its queen, Dido, and even the Underworld.

It's crazy that his understudy, Ovid was the one who kept the manuscript after octavian ordered him on pain of death to retrieve it, even though Virgil's last wish was to burn the manuscript because it is not complete. I'm so sorry I am 49 seconds in and I just wanted to say that many scholars think, I'm not a scholar but I agree with these ones, that the Aeneid is not an answer to, but instead, part 3... It closes the Iliad & the Odyssey out by elevating Rome. Romans just so happened to believe that they were the descendants of the Trojans... which is also why they didn't rightly take kindly to the Greeks lol.

Wonderful, as always! I've really enjoyed all of your Rome-focused episodes. Have you read "Lavinia" by Ursula K. LeGuin? It's quite a unique take on the early Latins through the eyes of Aeneas's wife (who is barely mentioned in the Aeneid.).
