The walls of Lugo were built in the later part of the 3rd century to defend the Roman town of Lucus. The entire circuit survives intact and is the finest example of late Roman fortifications in western Europe.

Well, to the people that built it, 150 years was a lifetime of protection, and for their kids and grandkids🤪 (and i just realized i responded to a comment from 8 years ago hahaha)

It's named after Lugus, a Celtic god.

@@lukaszspychaj9210 Thank you for the response. I'm just curious as to the spelling of that name. Where did it originate? I've seen it in other places as well. For example Italy and France. Is there a connection? Thanks again

@@serxiodoblebb5858 Thank you. The name Lugo, must have been very important to someone. Possibly Roman's? I say this because that name, is found throughout many parts of the world. I wonder if there's more to this. Thank you

His original name in latin was Lucus Augusti, which means The Sacred Place of Augustus. It was founded around 15 BC. There is also another theory that suggests that before the Romans founded the city that place was a sacred forest dedicated to the ancient celtic god Lugh. But the modern name clearly comes from Lucus the ancient roman name of the city. Hope i answer your question ;)
