It's funny for me to see how Westerners who have no experience of living under a dictatorship judge others. I was born in Romania during the communist era (1987) and people were killed and tortured for their beliefs. I have a different relationship with the idea of torture, for example: I don't think I would have the courage to protest if I lived in Russia. My family members were cowards because they were struggling to survive. And the Romanians who managed to escape to another country were followed by the secret services even there. I've had a lot of therapy and I'm still dealing with the traumas of communism, and believe me, it's not easy. But of course you Westerners, who haven't lived through such horrors, are brave and know better what to do and how to do it. I'm not saying Roman is perfect, but he's trying to live his life as best he can. Maybe he could do more, but maybe he doesn't have the inner resources to do it. And not everyone is as perfect as you would like them to be. I think your view is simplistic because you can't understand what it's like to have that background. And you can't do that by using your mind, but by experiencing some of the hard things you've never experienced. Maybe you should blame the Z Russians who left Russia instead, there are plenty of them. These people are the real problem.

@@ADAMSIXTIES did you hear about generational trauma? Honestly, you're so ignorant - your question and emoticon are so disappointing. Do you believe that the consequences of a regime disappear soon after its fall? Let me give you an example: most of the people here even after 30 years after communism have 2 types of reactions when they deal with an abuser: they either remain silent because they still fear consequences or they insult and scream to that person. I managed to fix this type of inherited behavior to myself only in the last few years and with therapy. Or maybe you want to hear about the very communist-style teaching methods still used in kindergartens in the 90s: I was bullied by the teachers themselves in front of everyone, it was normal and accepted. There were times for naps in kindergarten, and if they caught you not sleeping, they'd make you do gymnastics in front of them just to humiliate you.

Comparing romanians with russians is like comparing apples with pears. What you said about the communist regime is correct and it fits perfectly with how you feel about it, it's not just because it is part of your past and you had to endure it, but also because you are romanian. Russians are different, good or bad, on a smaller scale their views might coincide with yours but on a larger scale their views will always be different. Going back to the historical events, as a monarchy we didn't choose to live in communism, the russians did, for themselves and for all former eastern block countries. In recent times again we chose the EU, they chose something else.

The citizens of the 3rd Reich who stood silently by for the most part in view of the atrocities theory government committed deserve all the contempt and scorn as does every russian who sits by quietly and does nothing to oppose putin. Tyrants and dictators don't come to power without the consent of the people or their apathy and refusal to stop them. Russians have had a informal agreement with putin the past 20 years of 'stay out of politics and don't criticize me and you'll be fine' Roman as a KZbin influencer can at the very least run a fund raiser for war refugees or use his large platform to draw attention to why putin needs to go. He's a coward who fled to avoid being drafted since he's military age. It's as simple as that. He's no moral champion or profile in courage. Same old with more casualities for another year. Trump being pushed (mostly by far-right fascists, Russian psyops and agents) in president's seat would deal an overall more painful blow to all the rest of "western" democratic world. Mainly for US itself. His promises and positions are ultimately a treason to US interests, Europe and a big, stupid middle finger to democracy in general. Europe has been forced to invest and lose the most money to defend Ukraine by proxy means, and without it situation would be catastrophical. Probably a complete collapse of state, but that's not happening. Problem is, while aid in dollar terms from Europe is much higher than US, it didn't have the weapons, stockpiles and especially their production available with nearly enough to spare to resist the Russian, N.Korean and Iranian (ignoring the smaller actors) procurement. So EU is still trying to figure out how to produce the necessary amount of ammunition that Ukrainian frontlines are not shelled into oblivion without suppression. EU and its peacetime military production compex just was not ready. The ammunition production is estimated to be up to speed in 2025, that's how hard is to make basic (comparatively advanced) shells in masse without necessary infrastructure. However the first two lots has been delivered, if that of pledged and necessary numbers hoped for the end of the last year. We can cope, bwithout US, just it's all horribly late. Only way to match the biggest and most resource-rich country on the planet with literally WW2-style wartime economy sacrificing >40% of budget to this war is kick EU economy in wartime gear too, however that's hard as hell in our economic and political system. In current economic climate it really takes a state-controlled dictatorship to match unbridled single decision making of unbridled fascist dictatorship. We have to really pull our fingers out to do it the democratic way, otherwise might as well go to war ourselves with all available NATO forces and end this once and for all. Europe is just too many and too small countries to agree without veto for such a step. I am for it, and don't believe for a moment that Kremlins nuclear threats is not a scaremongering bluff, for many reasons. Bottom line, we can obliterate Russian army and push back as far as we want even without US, IF we stay united and most members agree to let the shite fly. It will likely cost less lives than pushing back Russian army to its borders with current methods. However. If that happens, US should be struck from NATO as traitors, period. You see, everyone who is undermining Europe's security - including just Ukraine, by action or inaction are a traitor. And GOP are no less than that right now. Mike Johnson just turned out to be a paid Kremlin agent and there are big part in Congress who go along - paid, incentified or not. Sane majority there already know this. They've betrayed Ukraine, their obligations and their own state. Unprecedented treason which could lead to anything, including a civil war. However not all is lost, and as long as Ukraine exists with all the institutions, it cannot lose and will not capitulate. If it does, it just a matter of time NATO or whats left of it is at full-blown war starting from Baltic states. And if for some reason the biggest countrues become traitiors too, the small ones will just be viped out. I'm talking real genocide of millions, by now i'm sure of it. Ukrainians have still an option to pretend to be Russian to survive, if quite horribly under occupation (still a cultural and economic genocide), but we here rather die or all emigrate than to return to the much worse version of mid-last century. So it comes to a simple expression: united we stand, divided we fall. To stop Russia from invading from nirth-east, Baltic states with Poland and probabty Scandinavia is enough. Note that all this is informed speculation in the middle of the night. Nobody knows the future and how things will play out, but we'll never surrender. It's worth our lives. This war is not ahgainst Ukraine, it's against everyone who is not a full-blooded brainwashed genocidal fascist. We can take it and even if production of weapons in Europe is lagging, there are places like South Korea, who are outproducing not only N.Korea but Russia itself in heavy weaponery, very same now delivered to Poland. I don't know if we'll have to use it on battlefield ourselves or we can dethrone Kremlin and stop this in another way. There is a way though While invested

He is not obligated to put himself in harms way and become a dissident. I'm American (with a European passport) and I also live in Portugal. Politically and socially, I think USA has serious problems but do I do anything about it? Nope. Am I obligated to do anything about it? Nope. So neither should Roman.

As much as I watch his channel, you do kinda have a point. He complains about some Russian kid not being able to collect a Steam prize or whatever because of sanctions, when there is no realistic way the west is able to differentiate between pro or anti Putin Russians inside or outside Russia while keeping up sanctions. Sanctions may be a blunt weapon, but they're designed to isolate and financially starve the Putin regime of funds for this and future wars. That might inconvenience individual Russians. But ultimately its better then the alternative.

Although I think he’s pretty self centered and mainly concerned for himself, I do think that he is partially worried about his family still being in Russia and how his position on KZbin could get them in trouble. I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s already had some sort of threats tossed his way because of it. I think his experience with conscription also freaked him out a bit, mainly because if he hadn’t been able to get out of it with a medical note (which according to him he barely managed to be successful in), his time would’ve lined up right with the invasion and more than likely could’ve seen him being forced to be directly involved. With all that being said though, I feel like I remember him mentioning that he had actually gone back at some point after he left. Can’t remember when or if he did actually say that, but I think it may have been from the past 6 months or so.

I'm afraid your response here reflects a statist viewpoint that the (or one of the) defining characteristics of an individual is their nationality, which comes with supposed duties towards the state, and that all citizens must answer for the policies.of the government they happen to have been born under, particularly in time of war. My sympathies are entirely with those courageous individuals who reject the claims of the omnipotent state, and who prioritize their own lives and happiness. Draft evaders and resistors are the real heroes of most wars. It pleases me to think that there are Russians and Ukrainians alike who have escaped their countries, got out from under their respective governments, and who are presently enjoying drinks together in the bars of Phuket or Tivat.

Sorry, but if anyone is unreasonable, it is you. What you fail to realize is that the majority of people in ANY COUNTRY couldn’t be bothered by politics. Their priorities are their career, business, family, and overall wellbeing. Overall, they just want to be left alone and live their lives. If you want to criticize Roman personally for his content, that is one thing, as he makes somewhat political content. But when you started crapping on the Russian men who moved to Kazakhstan, who refuse to take part in any of this, on either side, you made a complete fool of yourself. Who are you to tell someone that they absolutely need to do something due to the fact of where they were born? You made your choice to support Ukraine. But you had a choice not to. So respect their choice to stay out of it. For that matter, respect the millions of Ukrainian men abroad who refuse to go and fight. They don’t owe anything to Zelensky, as much as those guys you met in Kazakhstan owe Putin. On a side note, putting pressure on Russians in the west to act the way you want them to, as well as trying to force Ukrainian men in the west to repatriate, is only playing into Putin’s hands. Because when it comes to humans, they react against whoever is putting pressure on them. When the Russian government put pressure on these men, enacting mobilization, they reacted by way of emigration. So long as no pressure is placed on them, they will just keep living their lives. But if western governments put pressure on them, they might just react in a way which benefits Putin. Because between going back to Russia and being treated like crap abroad, they might just go back. Same thing with the Ukrainians if they are forced to repatriate. Last thing they want is to die in a trench. It just so happens that Ukrainian citizens have visa-free access to Russia, along with a fast-track to citizenship. If I were in their shoes, working at a “tasty and period” somewhere in Tula, sounds a lot better than getting pounded by 152mm artillery. Therefore, if the west keeps this up, Russia will get 1 or 2 million people, mostly men, all of whom speak Russian, and many of whom with advanced STEM degrees, contributing to their economy. Oh, and did I mention that Russia is currently facing a labor shortage?

Precisely. I used to watch videos by Roman back in the day, but when Russia invaded Ukraine and he revealed that inside he is truly no different from majority of Russians - despite superficially pretending otherwise - I stopped watching his videos. I have no sympathies for him and Russians like him: they've enabled Putin through their indifference for decades and Roman also revealed that he doesn't really care what Russians are doing in Ukraine: even in Georgia he acts like he is the victims, when Georgia is a country that has large parts of it territory occupied by Russian forces, but even this isn't relevant to him, having this total indifference to anything but himself (and that's the Russian attitude, "It's not my problem, I can't do anything about it" - when majority of people think like that you get a country like Russia).
