Hey buddy love watching your videos. I live in San Diego and do a lots of lake fishing however I’m new to saltwater fishing. A coworker of mine that is an avid fisherman has advised me to go fish mission bay for spotted bass and Halibut. Any recommendations where I should launch my kayak and what’s the best time to go? Thanks for the cool videos, lots of great info your providing👍🤩

Roman, wondering what size single hooks you are using on cranks. I have generally stayed away from cranks because I hate treble hooks. Off topic, I have gone Z man big time. Caught more fish this summer--including a likely legal halibut (didn't take time to measure)-- on the tickler-z in laguna pink than everything else combined.

Thank you for the pointers! I've fished mission bay a ton and have had most luck on a chovy hook up bait. However, I bought the exact same ned rig shroom heads and same color grey worm as in this vid awhile back and was wondering where to use it. Now I know it works magic in the bay. Can't wait to try it next time I go out🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🎣

Hi Joshua, if you are fishing it from shore, use it on light gear so you can cast far. 8-10lb line. As for locations to fish it’s hard do say from shore. Basically cast anywhere there are rocks against water. We have a ton of that all over SD and Mission Bay. It’s kind of a right of passage to put in the time and try different spots. That’s also half the fun. Being creative with the shore fishing limitations. I hope that helps.

What about in murky dark brown water, in Newport beach by the wedge jetty, the water is dark and brown, with overcast... What lures and bait to use?

Really enjoy your content Roman, had a question on your umbrella setup. I know California only allows 3 hooks for freshwater, but does that also apply for inland bay fishing? I know you can fish more than 3 in the ocean like on a sabiki rig for example, but wonder if that applies for inland saltwater. Thanks for the help !
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, the 3 hook limit is for freshwater. You can fish a full A-Rig in Saltwater. I have it setup like this so I could quickly go between salt and fresh. Now I run it with 5 lures since I dont do much freshwater anymore. Thanks for your question. Are you fishing from shore or on a kayak?

👍 “Every time you buy a lure, consider it lost”. I should’ve considered my jigpara blade lost this morning before it got snapped off. Whatever it was wanted it more than me. 😳

Hi Cal, some of the guys I fish with have been throwing that Jigpara. I bet it would slay on the docks. It sinks so fast you can fish it on deep docks without slowing down the drift. I'm going to pick some up and see how I do with them. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Good info. I'm curious about specific spots you like in Mission Bay. I live on Sail Bay, have you had any luck there? I usually don't have much time, never more than an hour or two, so I usually fish from shore, although I also have a paddleboard that I use to get out into the water when I have a couple hours on my hands.
@RomanCastroVlog

Sail Bay van be pretty good. The trick is to have a long cast. Walk around when it's low tide so you can get an Idea of where all the eel grass is and where it has sandy gaps. These are the transitions you want to target later when the water is up. If you have polarized glasses they make it easier to see the structure when the water is up. Hit me up on instagram @romancastro and we can meet up for a shore session. I love fishing MB

@@RomanCastroVlog took the words out of my mouth, Roman.. yep, scout at low tide when the water is clear. I am a liquid structure guy, so I always look for areas the current will pull food over an obstruction...

Hey Roman! Big fan of your channel here. I've been using your tips and just slaying the bass in Mission Bay. But... I have a question. How do you handle the tidal currents in the bay? I'm paddling but getting a pedal yak this month. I was wondering how the mirage allows you to maintain position versus a prop drive with instant reverse.
@RomanCastroVlog
@RomanCastroVlog 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve! Thanks for the support and the question. The tidal current is what makes the fish active. It’s like a conveyor belt that brings good to hungry fish. The fish stage up so they are facing up current so you drift with the current and cast agains it then just let your lure drag on the bottom. Thanks Roman! Great info as always. I'm keeping an eye on the water quality advisories and will give that a shot as soon as it clears up a bit. I still haven't decided what new yak I'm getting but leaning towards the new outback. Thanks again and keep up the great work. You've inspired many of us.

Hi Charleen! There are a ton of places to fish all over San Diego. As long as its not prohibited by a sign and you have your license, look for anywhere rocks meet the water. Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Mission Bay, are just a few places to try. Also come check out FishyHour M-F at 7PM. We have a great group of anglers that can give you more advice on how to find fishing areas. The next episode of Fishy Hour is here kzbin.infolive

I’d be nice if I actually knew a couple spots around San Diego, every spot I go to is filled with people who catch and keep instead of releasing, kinda pisses me off

There are tons of spots all over SD. It’s part of the adventure. And as far as people keeping fish, if they are legal and within their bag limit it’s all good. To each his own. I release spotties, sandies, and calicos.

I feel you. I see way too many people throw whatever they catch into their bucket without regard to regulations. Small spotties are such aggressive feeders they are an easy catch for these poachers.
