What I don't get (this time!) about her is - how is it [immediately] acceptable to go live in grandma's house while theirs is renovated...but not her own - Chenghuan's offer of a rental [immediately refused], also for temporary use. These two options were brought up one after the other, no more than two minutes apart. She seems to think the world owes her an upscale life, and this to the embarrassment of her family. Or, at least to Chenghuan who finally told her mother she couldn't fill the hopes for the privileges life she had wanted when young...and, she's very sensitive about her grandma where she wouldn't want ANYBODY to mistreat/use her. The mom's ever reaching, grabbing for, what others have gained through hard work is unconscionable. It was said that Mr and Mrs Xin made the family fortune by working hard - together, as partners in their startup, implying they were first generation rich. All Mrs Mai does and probably ever did is complain about her husband being insufficient, a let-down. The way she is is likely why grandma has never shared her economic status with them. And, grandma had her own struggles in obtaining what she has...a cheating husband and divorce. I mean, what's the difference in living temporarily in one place vs another. Sure, their rental would not be as upscale as a Western-style home...but, it would be theirs to live in without apprehension of messing something up. I don't get it...'dependent' with ever butt-licking and fear of being put out if only at the whim of the owner vs 'independent' no one to answer to, living. Maybe I'm projecting sensibility onto this character who has none. My bad. So, just a [confused] thought... .🤷‍♀️

Ms Zhang caused grandma to collapse. She was living a serene life and enjoying her grand kids and the devil showed up to kill steal destroy. She broke that old woman's heart saying to her that Zheming was all about the business of getting the hotel, that he needed it to step up his career, and is her partner to develop the place. Grandma knew he'd spoken about it but she didn't think he was only coming to see her to get her to consent. This is how Ms Zhang presented the situation. Then, had the nerve to tell him after he told her she'd crossed the line, that his grandma was just an old lady to her. He looked deadly from the time he heard her voice in grandma's room. He's likely going to make her pay for what she did and said. I wonder what mild-mannered Chenghuan would have done if she'd been the one to discover Ms Zhang there...🤔...maybe she'd have gone to jail that day.🤭

👏👏👏👏👏👏...I must agree. When Chenghuan left home he said to avoid many fights in the home he had let her mom rule. However, this isn't a good excuse or explanation. He should have put his foot down at the start of their relationship and she would not have been so..🤔...insane. Him doing so didn't have to mean he had to dominate her, but that he could have created a more harmonious union for them and later for their children by being the leader of his family - not the follower way he chose. She likely would have been happier because she would have had - a man. He also may have prospered better to provide more than he has over the years...with a sense of being the meat and gravy on the plate. His 'good' is not good. Ms Zhang called him henpecked, and not in a 'but it's cute' kind of way. The dad was consoling the mom - with a less than honorable mention of what she'd done...after she'd set their daughter up then publicly slapped the snot out of her for not accepting the entrapment. Grandma had to give her something for the swelling - revealing how forceful the hit must have been. Chenghuan said it was her fault for letting things get out of hand this way by allowing her mom to always rule...but it was her dad that let it, and everything, get like that. The woman didn't want the house to be fixed, wouldn't use the new refrigerator, hounded the daughter, treated the son like a passerby...and these are new things...what's it been for 30 years(?!)...c'mon man. She has now physically assaulted your grown (nahhh, 25 is for real grown, and she's 29) daughter.

Now, seeing her mother in this state, i can confirm that her mother is narcissistic person. my mom too behave like her, forcing me things for "my own good", and ends up messing things or fighting. Then when i dont talk with her or try to stay away from her, she acts like she cares, but again if i start talking with her, starts her bad behaviour of forcing again. Just like her mom. These ppl are narcissistic and always act like they are the victims. I think the director was trying to portray her mother as such narcissistic person. Because my mom is like her, i hate that i am still alive, and wanted to live far from her, just like the fl. Till the FL mother forced her daughter to get married, i didn't felt so similar, but watching this episode, i realised her mother is a narcissistic character. Narcissistic character makes you irritate soo much that you would wish you can choke them. 😅
