All Portuguese has to do is take back some ''Spanish'' differentiation words (like they originally had in Old Portugues) and castiallish would be like that awkward language that's half Portuguese and half Italian. Brazil is 50% of South America in one country it is the future so if it gets back the Regal accent too would be great.

Sounds like that because other languages influence in the portuguese... Our "R forte" its the same of the french, because the strong french influence in the XIX century in Portugal and Brazil. The common brazilian "de/di" and "te/ti", "L final" sounds different because african dialects influence. As a French i'd say that many actual Spanish and Italian words are actually understandable in French but are seen as Medieval or Religious example : Senor = Seigneur Garcias / Grazie = Graces Also for "Yes / No", the word "si" exist and is used a lot in French to say yes, but you will employ "oui" or "si" depending on the context of the sentence !

To me the sound of Italian is closely similar to that of Spanish and Portuguese sounds a bit like Spanish except that it is not so fast and is soft and warm as French. Grammar and vocab-wise, French and Italian are close to each other while Spanish and Portuguese are close to each other.

It is important to emphasize that the Portuguese used in the video (yellow color) is American Portuguese (Brazil). The difference between European Portuguese and American Portuguese is enormous. European Portuguese sounds like Russian, while American Portuguese is much softer.

All have each other cognate forms: for example in italian you can say "arrivederci" but also "addìo" cognate of adios, adeus, adieu. Other example: in italian you can say "Signore" but in formal way or in ancient way you can also say "Messere" or "Ser" or "Monsignore" (Clergy) cognates of Monsieur and "Sir", and you can say "mi dispiace" but also "desolato" cognate of desolé etc...etc...

In Spanish too, it looks like they are different but native speakers of any of these will be able to understand the others even when they're different because we have a word for that too even if it's not the most used: Monsieur/Monsignore-> Monseñor (we prefer _señor_ only but we have that too for the clergy) desolé/desolato-> desolado (we usually say _perdón_ which is a shortened form of _te pido perdón,_ I ask your pardon literally) Pardon-> perdón (again the French prefer _desolé/desolado_ but they have ours too) Also _tarde_ exists in French too as _tard_ I believe, so it should be quite easy for a Frenchman to deduce the meaning of _buenas tardes,_ being _buenas bonnes_ in French also.

I can't speak spanish really well, so I'll try to explain in english. Romanian isn't half latin half slav as people say, it's vocabulary is 77% based on LATIN ! Of course there are slavic loanwords, but that's because of it's isolation from the rest of the latin languages. Think about french : Why have you included it here, if it is different from the rest of the languages? Because you're just mean, that's why... Westerns can be so narrow-minded sometimes :p

Spanish and Portuguese inherited slightly older Latin vocabulary. French and Italian inherited more newer vocabulary from Latin. Grammatically, Spanish and Portuguese are very similar and French and Italian are very similar when written. But when spoken Portuguese and French appear to sound similar due to the nasalization of many vowels, whereas Spanish and Italians appear closer in their inventory of sounds. Fascinating stuff, Once you learn one these Romance languages you can pick up another one with very few hiccups along the way.

Eu, sinceramente, não curto o Portugues europeu pelo fato de achá-lo muito "russo". Eles pronunciam as vogais no meio das palavras de forma fraca e tiram a "beleza" do falar. E falam de forma rápida, o que parece encurtar e engolir as palavras de uma oração..... Eu acho feio.......... Mas........ É minha opinião pessoal. Em relação ao sotaque caipira, eu não gosto porque ele retira o que de mais bonito existe nas línguas latinas.. o RRRR bem forte, ralhado e pronunciado.......

The Portuguese accent is from a person from the interior of Brazil (interior of são Paulo specifically) so, actually, the guy speaking it's a "country, hick" . people from big cities don't speak like that ( It depends on the region of course).

Impressions as a someone *learning* Latin: italian is the closest (no shit its where the romans were), then spanish, I have issues with french and portuguese, because they have words that are very very similar to ones in latin.. I'd put them at the same ranking, but I don't know enough about either of them to really place them well. Cause the romans had control of all of france, then gaul, and all of the iberian peninsula which has portugual & spain there.. So i don't really know..

It usually never is. In most videos that make this kinds of comparisons, it's like they pretend Portugal doesn't even exist! For French, Italian and Romanian they always put examples from people of those countries; for Spanish and Portuguese many times they put South American ones. But the worst is when for Spanish they also use someone from Spain, and it's just Portuguese as the only language that doesn't get represented by its country of origin. That's quite common, unfortunately. And then they pretend we don't have a right to complain about it.
