I'm a wedding officiant. I was contacted by a 70- year old " bride" who described her relationship with a Canadian she met online who was working as an engineer in Syria! Met through Instagram. No video chat. Only texting and chatting. Occasional phone calls. Guy has an accent. ( Most Canadians sound American.) All the major red flags. She insisted he never asked her for money but I suspect she was not telling me everything. . But he asked her to marry him after about 6 weeks of chatting. I gently suggested she was being scammed but she is adamant the guy is authentic. Needless to say I refused to accept the job and recommended this channel to her. Very sad.

It no doubt reduces Trust about people from west Africa who come to the USA, UK etc too. There's certainly 'no smoke without fire', and the massive amount of scamming coming from Nigeria, Ghana and parts of India (and maybe Russia/China in a different way) sends a strong message of criminal and anti-Western sentiment in parts of those countries. Part of me can understand it, as rich western countries have a long history of exploiting others ... however there's no moral rational for victimising and ruining vulnerable individuals. I'm curious about what's culturally or systemically different in those countries that have more scammers.

@@mikefoster6018 I’m thinking it primarily is due to lack of legitimate opportunities in these countries. You have two know two things about Africans. First is that they have very different moral standards compared to Western ones, esp. in regards to stealing, lying and sex. Second, they feel they have a right to do anything to white people, bcs "white people stole for centuries from Africa". So, the combination of the two factors makes them very dangerous and heartless. And third: most of them are heartless by nature and would easily destroy a family member or a fellow African. Africans treat each other terribly.
@MileinaJuarez2 жыл бұрын
@@elladapetrosyan9610 that’s is incredibly sad. I’m mixed, German and Guatemalan and we moved to the USA in 2018, after my husband got transferred to lead a research lab here. He studied in Duke though and his roommate was from Ghana. He didn’t have a lot of great things to say about his fellow countrymen either. He is a successful scientist now and most people from Africa we know are well educated people in engineering and science fields. I like them very much. But I can also say, that my husband and I are not the typical immigrants from Guatemala either and sadly many immigrate here, that won’t do this country any good and destroy our countries reputation. I imagine it’s similar for Africans. Probably a lot of good people are there but others destroy the countries reputation…

I have a theory that these scammers put people's Instagram/Facebook names onto a "list" that they can sell or trade with _other_ scamming organizations, and that the next scammer can see the names and go find the victims (likely using bots). Unfortunately, some scam victims that are too old or have dementia will repeatedly fall for scams until someone takes their PC or smartphone away.
@islandgal5002 жыл бұрын
@@angeldiaz762 Yes, they have already proven that happens. They update your information every time they talk to you and you give them new details about yourself. That is why scam baiters will give fictitious information to a scammer. Susceptible people need to be protected by their family or friends or learn how to protect themselves by deleting messages or hanging up the phone rather than being intimidated or tricked. I don't think someone has to be old to keep falling for these scams either. It will happen to anyone who is too trusting or has that need to help others with their financial problems. Fortunately, I am too skeptical to fall for them because I have my rules - nothing related to money or my personal information. It is getting harder since scammers are coming up with new cons that are more believable. Amuse yourself on those social media sites if you must, but think before doing anything that makes you vulnerable. Remember it is not your responsibility to fix the problems of others with your money.

It’s wonderful that you got all that info to fight back. Also, thinking about other potential victims and helping them is beautiful.

There’s the words…”my queen”……also….these stories to get the money from their victims just floors me…I mean how many times do they use the same stories! I hope this lady can move forward….plus …it gets me that before any of the money stuff she didn’t insist on speaking to him first….that’s a dead giveaway…..

If, per chance, you do happen to be a queen, the proper greeting would be "your Majesty" or "Your Highness". If you are a royal family member and you are cruising on-line dating sites, you've forgotten that you have scores of distant relatives and it is quite permissible to date and marry any one of them. 😉

How on earth can someone pay money to someone they’ve never met?
@dumamay283 Жыл бұрын
everyone says that until it happens to them. When you're at your worst point mentally and lonely, you are vulnerable.
@jeanmyers1787 Жыл бұрын
@@dumamay283 i guess these bastards specifically target lonely & mentally vulnerable. When I get one I drag them on & on, at least whilst they’re spending time on me, which is totally wasted they’re not hurting someone else.

@@dumamay283 And no...I can be at my absolute LOWEST...and I've been, many times...and it will NEVER happen to me. It just doesn't make sense, I'll just get scammed the old fashioned way, right here in town...face-to-face, thank you very much!
@dumamay283 Жыл бұрын
@@bratzboyz me neither, but maybe i am just mentally stronger than other people. But i can empathize with people who are not in their right mind that get tricked...However, i will say some victims are just delusional, and not only that, they are very unpleasant, so maybe they deserved to be tricked.
