Trajan was the emperor of the Roman Empire. Old Romania ( called then Dacia ) fought two big wars with the empire, got conquered. But turns out the roman civilized the dacians. Once the empire pulled back the soldiers stayed so we - romanians - are a mix of dacian and roman DNA. ( many other ethnicities are mixed in too as migratory tribes passed through here but the main contributors are these two )

barbaric tyrants refers to the russian, austrian and ottoman empires which were ruling areas inhabited by romanians when the anthem was written in 1848

Trajan was the emperor of rome which conquered this land and romanized the population. And also Mihai, Stefan and Corvinus were leaders of these lands which were romanian. Love the reaction as a romanian

Mihai - Michael the brave, the first to unify the romanian principalities while fighting the ottomans. Stefan - Stephen the great, who defeated many armies (poles, mongols, hungarians, ottomans) in unfavourable battles using his tactical mastery. Corvinus - Matthias Corvinus, who I think is the most famous hungarian king and one of the few who helped us push back other invaders.
