Romanian 73/80 Helmet

This video is on one of the what I think is one of the still relevant steel helmets for the modern battlefield. This helmet was designed as a cut down version of the Romanian 39 helmet which was a copy of the Dutch m34 helmet. This helmet was developed in the 70’s the replace the aging m39 and the ssh40’s the Romanians were using. This helmet offered much more protection and comfort by the creative use of angled steel and an upgraded 4 point chinstrap for better weight distribution. There is two versions of this helmet the m73 was the original and it’s the same helmet but with a shiny brass badge on the front. The 73/80 is the same helmet but without a badge or place for one. Nice Romainian helmet, my M73/80 was made in 1978 but I've seen Romainian M73/80 helmets made as far back as 1976. Also the first number is its production year so yours was made in 1986.

the Romanian M 73 / 80 use to be very hard to get , I finally got a nice one in unissued cond date 1976 , it's a compact low profile helmet

a 9mm bullet going 1000fps isnt much different from a rock going over 500fps so a helmets ability to stop small pistol rounds is a valid qualification

worth noting however that some 20 century steel pots [they are a minority, but still exist] where also tough to be able to take direct hit from small pistols (there's even an article that s full of translated soviet documents that show that soviets tested a lot of SSH40 and compared them to german stahlhelm, and they tested direct hits with various caliubers at vairous distances, and the conclusion was to slightly increase the shell thickness ) there's also the east german stahlhelm M56 (wich design trace back to the IIIrd reich ) wich had in mind the notion of direct hit from small pistols if i remember

@@gamecubekingdevon3 not until 2013 when the ech came out other then that there was no standard issue helmets designed to actually stop bullets. Bullets of certain kinds of velocity such as pistol rounds a much more predictable and controllable stand ins for shrapnel is all.

86 is the year, 1986 it was made, thé other numbers are thé serial number.
