Short Romanian Mioritic Shepherd description:
The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd is an athletic and spectacular giant dog breed with average height between 65-75 cm which is 26-30 inches and weight typically between 45-70 kg, which is 100-150 pounds.
The Romanian Mioritic Shepherd is extraordinary livestock protector, so they just have to be courageous, fearless and wary of strange animals or people. They would try to repel any intruder, it can be a thief, but also a wolf or a bear.

I adopted a 11year old Mioritic lady from a death shelter. Now after 1,5 years I still can`t believe what kind of dog she is. Honestly she doesn`t give me an inch of space to train her or using a command....she does everything right on her own in every situation .. I´m in aw and in complete love. She is very calm, always friendly with each and everyone , all animals and if there is a dog, no matter what size and power, not respecting this old lady ,it does take her 3 to 5 second to show who is the boss and 100% all dogs so far learn their lesson without any harm. I guess she had bigger challenges than any aggresiv dog in her life. The only thing she could do better is maybe her bonding towards me. I think she never had a human so close and still opens up to this new situation day by day. I learn from her to be patient , friendly in all situation and never be in a hurry no more. She really got me and did bring qualities in my life which I actually never missed before. I´m very very gratefull to have her.

I adopted a puppy from a shelter here in Rome, Italy in May of 2020 and have finally figured out that he is definitely a Mioritic mix! He’s absolutely gorgeous inside and out and can’t imagine life without him ❤

i have one, i took from a rescue 6 years ago. incredible dogs. if you get them. i had a dog that i had no idea what she was. i took her to training , that was interesting. we gave up. she’s very guardian and saved me from a nasty attack. i totally adore her.

I had one of this kind for 18 years, he passed away before two years. Best dog i ever had! Sweet, kindhearted, protective but calm with kids. He still acted like a puppy at 18 years old. Miss him a lot! These are big but great dogs!

I had one while I was a kid. He was capable of jumping over a 2 meter fence and that drove my grandparents mad. He was also very protective with me, standing between me and other dogs on the streets. I miss him...

I have 4 large breed dogs, one of which is a 58 kg Mioritic called Dylan. He's the most beautiful dog I have ever had the privilege of owning. He's.calm, super loyal, intelligent, gentle with people he knows, loving & affectionate, funny & has a real character. He's also stubborn, belligerent, obnoxious, aloof & lazy. I absolutely adore him & if I had the space I'd adopt at least 4 more of him xx

there are four things I like about this dog: they're very calm and gentle with kids or defenseless creatures, suspicious of strangers (he won't eat food from a stranger no matter how hungry he is, but that's typical of most Romanian sheepdogs), surprisingly aggressive toward aggressive intruders and they're spectacularly beautiful

Adopted a mioritic a couple of years ago. She is loving and good tempered, but she is afraid of the dark and has to be accompanied in the garden at night for her last pee. She loves water and is always going for a swim in the local park, much to the amusement of everyone, including the ducks. One drawback at the moment is if she wants to say hello to a dog her size she runs towards them at full speed, even though we know she’s just saying hello it is rather stressful and we’ve had many an argument with other owners.

what I do like most about the Mioritic Shepherd? I have one!!! He is 50kg of pure love; protective, stubborn, teritorial all "check" but also even-tempered . With the proper socialization and training there are no issues outside his territory like walking in the city, park or going to a restaurant. Inside, after 5 minutes with us, you become part of his flock to guard. He is also very attentive with small children. I was amazed how well, the 5 year old daughter of our friends, could handle him at the leash. No pulling, no funny things like it was "another dog".

i have a bucovina and mirotic sheperd and they are true to what he is saying. they overly protect the house. protect me on midnight walks. they are honestly so soft but will protect when needed. i will never agree with using a dog as a weapon but these dogs are so loyal they will protect you. but they are also so friendly. both my dogs want to play with every dog in the village . they want to meet everyone. my biggest dog (45kg) literally bounces at every opportunity and i have to apologise to people incase they are intimidated. such brilliant breeds i dont know how i got so lucky!

Great little film with an accurate description of these dogs. My wife and I adopted a Romanian rescue in Spring of last year. The first night he was bought over to us I lay on the floor with him. I knew then he was going to be part of the family. Everybody loves him. He is a piebald Mioritic weighing about 40 Kilos and yes, he is very strong. He is the best companion animal. In a family situation what kind of things in your experience does he like doing? You mentioned that they are an intelligent breed. I think that because of Covid 19 the things I can do with him have become a little limited beyond daily walks. Any suggestions would be good. Moses would also be pleased to know about new activities in these difficult times. Thanks to Romania for a fantastic, smart, funny and truly wonderful dog!

Thanks! I visited Romania several times (mostly the area around Czech villages in Southern Banat) and i saw so many great looking stray dogs. Most of them looked like some crosses of various sheepdogs. I was curious what is the reason that Romania has so many stray dogs, i never seen it anywhere in Europe.

@@Rocadog it comes from the situation during communism. Many families were forced to move from houses with gardens an dogs to apartment buildings without haveing the possibility to take their dogs with them and this led to this situation.

I have to show Minnie this video. She does not know that she is not supposed to be a couch potato and she is not aware that she is supposed to be brave. She starts whining at the littlest of things, even our vet was surprised that she is so over-sensitive. Anyway, Minnie is a great dog we got from our local shelter. They were a bit unclear about the breed but I found out that she is in most parts a Mioritic. Definitely not for beginners, I can tell you! You have to be really nice, gentle and firm with her, otherwise she does whatever she wants. And what she wants is for sure not what you want. 😆

Speak to a behaviourist asap. If you got him from a rescue, they should have one available for you to talk to. Good rescues always have something called "rescue back-up" for situations like this which helps prevent rescues being returned. X

Look into rescues and shelters in Romania. I live in the UK and rescued one from a charity. They handled the transport from Romania to London I also know of people in Germany and Belgium who have done the same, so maybe it could work for Greece too.

depending on were you live in Greece it may be too hot for a Mioritic. They like more the cool climate as they are used from the carpathian mountains.

quite a good job compliments for your work - one little suggestion, when you create such material regarding a pure breed, be kind and use only pure breed dogs in it, not mix ones, otherwise, you create confusion. Another material could be done for mix ones with the same success!
