I have a player that runs two characters in my D&D campaign and they have a romantic relationship. It's pretty awesome, I've never had a player do that before now. It makes a difference in those two character's choices when it comes to one or the other of them being in danger. It makes them risk themselves more to to save the other whereas if they were only friends, they might not stick their necks out so far. I'm going to share this link with my player, I'm sure she'll dive right in and write a few articles on our World Anvil! Can't wait!

Nice! Romance can really dial up the dramatic tension in unexpected ways.

Never heard of it before. Now I think I have at least a general understanding. Thanks for nudging my literary knowledge boundaries a bit wider.

I'll be honest, I saw the title at first and thought, 'oh cool, a fantasy based off ancient Rome.'

Well... it *could* be, if two Roman mages fell in love?

Best Romantacy novel of all time (also most underrated fantasy novel of the 20th century): A Fish Dinner in Memison by E.R. Eddison (1941). The hero will melt your face, the heroine will change the way cis-het male readers think about women and the world-building is utterly mind-blowing. No meat but fish-meat only.

Will have to check it out.
