The word is Rai..from the Hindu for a Lord or one of high status. My commanding officer was Guru Gobind Rai before he became Guru Gobind Singh. We, the Roma, originate from Rajastan/Punjab
Is there any way I can listen to this on Spotify? What is the song called?

It's called 'Romany Rye' - not on spotify. I don't use that. Cheers.

Can you give a brief about this song? Like what is it about? Explain like I'm a complete newbie. I just stumbled upon this and it feels serene.

@@crasherdgrate - thank you. I took an interest in Romany mythology and culture after going with a musical pal down to BBC recording studios in Southampton. It was a long trip so we played 'cassettes' of unknown artists to while our time away. My friend put on a tape by Fred Rooke, who had made a study of Romany life and translated a lot of extant works. I was hooked on the stories and legends. This isn't one of Fred's. Some of my songs use his stories, but not this one. It was put together after seeing Romanies on Dartmoor and reading about their lives, traveling from place to place. What sparked the song was my first line, imagining: 'Roads longer than all the turns of the caravan wheels'. It was many years before I put the song into order - so that it made musical sense. My finger-picking in the verses is in 6/8 time and the singing in 4/4 which took me a while to master. I'm pleased you like it. :)

@@johntimpanyii8813 That sounds very mystical. The song also has that kind if a vibe. I'll look into it. Thanks for the enlightenment.
