I was at Trevi fountain on April 4, a few days ago, in the afternoon. OMG It was insanely crowded. Well, any of the sites were nuts. The Sistine Chapel must have had at least 500 people in it when I was there. People were talking and snapping photos, which is against the rules, but the guards could do nothing but crowd control. I had an excellent guide through the Vatican Museums. Without her even that experience would have been a catastrophe. The Colosseum was insane as well. I did actually have a lovely experience at Palatine Hill, as I arrived when it opened and thought, "Am I at the wrong gate?" because no one else was there yet!!! 😅

Hi, because people think of a selfie and off they go; they don't even know the story behind a monument or anything. Many fancy, uninformative videos are also to blame: but of course, everyone wants to be in that place at that moment. There are great places just around the corner, always stay out of the crowd if you can! Always welcome👍

I will be in rome in july and I am already prepared to insane crowds and lots of 5am walks😅
@RaulSelva5 ай бұрын
Just start your exploration of the city at 5 am (in spring/summer). For an hour or two, you will find yourself almost alone at many locations and only small crowds at places such as Trevi Fountain. Can't avoid the crowds at the most popular museums though - even if you follow a get in early tour (perhaps an after hours tour may see few people at the Vatican museums).

I was in Rome for the first time between March 25-28. One morning there was nice weather. Then it rained for two days! On my second day I took the train down to Naples and went to Pompeii - in pouring rain. The following day, my last full day, I did the Forum/Colosseum tour, and intended to come and see the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain afterwards. But the rain had been so hard, I was soaked through and my teeth were chattering I was so cold - so I went back the my hotel and went to bed, to warm up! Never got to this place, so this was nice to watch. Next time!

If you have less than 5 days in Rome, it's best to just visit places in the city. When I last visited Rome in a late May, it was also rainy and gloomy skies. One rainy late night (~10:30pm), I headed to Trevi fountain (with brolly)and was rewarded with a near empty area.

Rome like Venice is suffering from over tourism
@marccollins19667 ай бұрын
Unfortunately it’s true. The day tax in Venice will not deter any tourists. BUT….something has to be done. Tourist revenue is great, but at what cost to our treasures?

That's because 95% of all cities worldwide built post 1930s (and even older cities remodeled) are filled with nothing but highways, light industrial factories, commercial all-glass showrooms, and other hideous or plain boxlike modernist structures that make one feel like an automaton whose sole functions are work-consume-work-consume... Nothing beautiful to admire, little history and nothing but corporate consumerist culture.

It's crazy to see people who don't respect the work of the local police! I would like to see how they behave in their countries: all dumbs just for a selfie, so sad.
@janlefave30487 ай бұрын
I sure do agree. So many selfie selfish people. Just take a photo and move on! Some people hold things up for 10 minutes and don't care they're keeping people waiting. Places like the Trevi Fountain should start charging people by the minute!
@alexRM587 ай бұрын
@@janlefave3048 Thanks appreciate. I see,they were thinking about it, but there is very little space to do it in an orderly manner. But we are also happy to share all the beauty of Rome with those who travel thousands of kilometers; the important thing is the behavior, it's not nice to ignore the working policemen like that: I've travelled, in some countries they don't even let you open your mouth! Always welcome, ciao!👍
