Be careful of pickpocketing. Just recently did this cruise about 3 weeks ago, 2 females tried to pickpocket me. Be careful of them pushing and rubbing against you. Keep an eye on your bags while on the train

Best Western Royal Santina. One block from Roma Termini Station. You can take the train to the port.

We did the reverse in June after getting off the Royal Clipper. Was very easy to do. Will be doing Odyssey OTS in November for the transalantic. There is no lobster night on most of the big cruise lines in Europe. Lobsters are a North American thing not found over there. They have langostino over there, which is similar to lobster but smaller and more expensive. Europeans just have a different way of doing things as it pertains to dinning.

I don’t like how far away the port is from Venice. Would you recommend private transportation?

@@TipsForCruisers what you want to do is call Royal carribean cusotmer service at least a month before departure. You can take their shuttle bus service to the port from the Venice airport. That still requires you to taxi back to the airport. But for a per person fee they will take you to the port. Spaces on the shuttle bus fill up quickly

Very similar to airport security, but you can bring large liquids onboard.

Those who think these people are not experienced 'TRAVELERS" - believe me - they are fit. Otherwise their story would have come out way more dramatic. Go "down" from one track and "up" to the other with heavy luggage - no elevator in sight is not easy and adds a lot of time. Rom by cruise - unless you have local friends who drive you to the port - FORGET IT. NOT A GOOD IDEA.

Solarium Bistro is free of charge and a great “unknown” place to grab something to eat. This is my go to on embarkation day as it isn’t crowded, especially when compared to Windjammer. I had dinner there for the first time in last cruise and was great. Your supposed to have reservations for dinner only but they were able book us in the spot in embarkation day. It is the same menu for dinner each night and felt like a specialty restaurant that was free to me.

We’re going in September flying in a day before. Any recommendations for hotels?

While we are mostly hotel people, we stayed at an airbnb which was a little cheaper but also much closer. I’m not sure how many airbnb would let you stay just for one night, but we stayed for only two nights at ours. Airbnb host also make it pretty easy giving you directions on how to get to there place. When we go back, we will definitely stay in this same airbnb or same Trastevere neighborhood at the minimum. Here is where we stayed and paid about 400 euros total for 2 nights when figuring in the 45 Euros for cleaning they ask you to give at check-in. We did not. Tipping isn’t part of the culture there. We did however tip a few select individuals such as our room attendant, waiter(s), and baristas.

Just to confirm, if I have pre bought train tickets online and checked in on the app, do I still have to find a machine to validate the tickets that are on my phone? Or no...??

In the App, you will just click “check in” when you ready to board. This “validates” your ticket. I’ve also read If you miss the train for some reason, it is still good for 4 hours and you can take the next one. We never had to do that, only bough “new” tickets when we shoes up real early cause I couldn’t figure out how to change it to an earlier time in The App when leaving from the Port to the FCO airport.

Do you know how many trains leave Rome to the port each day? We are taking this trip in 2 weeks. Ty for tips.
