what blew my mind in rome 1 was once, when i had my fleet near coast, and my army near sea was fighting and during the battle as i rotated cameras i noticed faaar far away on the horizon, there were flotilla of ships there, and i was like "noooo fkn waaaay" xD

He said, that Rome 2 won't capture the true Rome 1 experience, which is, somehow, understandable, since Rome 1 was even more revolutionary than Rome 2 (first game with true 3D-gfx, massive battles bigger than before,...) while Rome 2 features smaller (but also awesome) steps between Shogun 2 and itself.

I always feel something, i can't describe it, i get goose skin, i feel some kind of trepidation inside of me when i hear this song. This game was and still is unbeatable. The feeling when you play it is.... it can't be described but still you know that feeling when you play this game

I've played Medieval 2, Empire, and Napoleon but I always come back to Rome. Hell whenever I play those other ones they just make me want to play Rome instead. Even though years have gone by Rome is still my favorite game.

The best total war would be if they made medieval II again but with the graphics of Rome II and expanded the map into Asia so that you could start as let's say Venice, conquer Europe, North Africa (as before), and then march your way towards China, conquering all that stands before you. I swear you could easily get a 150 hour playthrough doing that.

Ah, I love this game! I've been living in India for 3 months and I left it back in the UK. I've been playing varuios factions on the Imperial campaign, concentrating on recreating Hannibal's march on Rome. Classic line of the whole game: "Attack the elephants men! get stuck into those big trunky beggars!"

Amazing how a video game can change you if it is the right type. I learned more about the Romans, Greeks, Medieval world, and 18th century than I would ever pay attention to in History class. And it draws you in so well...has a teacher considered using this as a learning tool? Maybe even for Geography class? Because I recently heard that most of us Americas think Europe is (snicker) in South America.

The closest they got to combat was a stand off with the Praetorians after Augustus died. There was a tension with the Senate having to declare his successor (Tiberius) and Tiberius in order to seal the deal had the senate house surrounded with Praetorians and the Urban Cohort bravely faced them up. (but would of lost had they fought)

@luckyprince164 its rather standard strategy...you could also try fighting mostly in wooded areas, and hide your cavalry and elite troops in the woods and give the enemy a nasty surprise from their flanks...always a good tactic.

Well if you're referring to the Curia Hostilia of the Early Republic of Rome, it was 85' long, 75' wide (rectangle). I believe its ruins are still around today.
