My mom had composite boards installed on her deck a couple years ago… they were soooooo slippery with rain and snow it wasn’t safe! She’s having it redone after testing a bunch more companies brands and even had the samples in the freezer after spritzing them with water to see what had better grip.

Just because you saw a video of the pods being recycled, does not mean it IS recycled. Majority of the plastics are shipped/sold to developing countries like China, Malaysia etc to pollute a different part of the world. You don't even realize how much this vlog helped my mental health today! We have been going through a full basement finish in our home since February. Between COVID delays, and waiting for contractors and electrical surprises in the walls (our house is only 8 years old, but the previous owners did some crazy stuff!)...but ugh I feel everything you are saying!!! I've been picking at some diys, and buying some decor here and there, and my partner has been reminding me that there is no where to store it upstairs...oh and I'm fighting the nesting urge because I am due in 9 and a half weeks with baby boy number 3?!?!? (Trying to keep a 3.5 and 2 year old away from the construction has been a task, I tell ya!) Anyway, I'm so grateful we will have a finished basement soon (?), but I hope I can get some decorating, styling and CLEANING before baby arrives!!! So thank you thank you thank you for sharing your feelings because it makes me feel better and less alone about how my mind is always spinning about our home :)

Be careful with tea pot. I got a tea pot at thrift store & was boiling water on my smooth top electric stove...went to bathroom & came back & bottom was leaking water & got underneath the electric stove wiring & caught fire. Thrift store tea kettle pot cost $5...ruined smooth top electrical 4 burner stove cost$800 new to replace with electrician... $1200.😣

We used Trex decking in our backyard for our extension off our brick patio. Love it, but it gets very hot in the Texas sun. I know it will be covered under the front porch, but because of the Texas heat, you might consider putting a ceiling fan on the porch. Or two.

I had that exact tea kettle back in the 70’s except it was the brown color that was called coppertone which was very popular for appliances at that time. Go with the composite decking…we did a 15’ by 30’ deck with Azek composite and have not had to touch it in 7 years of Florida heat, sun and storms! I power wash it 3 or 4 times a year and it looks as good as new!

Although i think you have to make an appointment or call ahead that your wanting to visit. check them out on fb. they travel and bring back salvage pieces, vintage and antique. i thought of you guys and the cottage when they put up their recent fb video.

FYI (we’re under contract for a 1895 farmhouse so I’m learning things) For the porch--- Spindles need to be 4” or less distance to be up to code for child safety. Make sure you look into those details especially if you’ll have rentals on your properties for liability reasons!
