My biggest problem with Christmas decorations is letting go with any of them. I can be selective with other decor, but for some reason Christmas decor is harder for me. So, it was interesting watching you explain how some fit in other genres.

I have a shoe box, I covered it in red wrapping paper for kids. Ornaments I don't use. I plan to give them to my daughter in years to come. The box is full of ornaments my daughter made in school, ornaments we bought that pertain to her ... Barbie, soccer ball, a telephone, ballerina etc). I never open it because I'll just cry.

Don't throw out lights just because they don't go on when you plug them on to test the strand...there is a little fuse in the plug. You can flip open the little compartment on the plug and replace the fuse and that could save you from buying new lights....

for the gnomes, I'd say either put them in Romeo's office, or make them some epic velvet hats to slip over the hats they have in whatever deep, rich velvet color you're using most of, and maybe see if that helps them acclimate to your vibe a bit more.

As far as the roses go, if you cut/prune them where there are 5 leaves instead of 3, they will rebloom faster!

I am not a wreath fan but I do love the simplest magnolia leaves because they are the most beautiful leaves in the world. The wonderful thing is that you can hardly tell the faux ones from the real ones(& of course you will want a fireplace mantle & the stair bannister 😊

I’m a little sad you got rid of the wooden trees. Because I love wooden decorations. You mentioned they were a bit too plain for you and I immediately thought of pyrography. It’s really cheap to buy the burning tool and you can make designs as intricate and fancy as you like and have each one unique. The stains can give lovely effects to it too.

It's funny how many things people call Scandinavian, that really isn't common in Scandinavia. At least before the 2010's. The cardboard star is a staple for advent though.

Here in Sweden, on the 1st of Advent, people put up their star lights in the windows, and/or electric candelabras. That’s an old tradition here. That’s when we start with the Christmas decorations. Your home doesn’t have to be “scandic” for you to put the star. Most Swedes don’t have a “scandic” home 😂👍

@moda78z I don't think MaCenna was saying stars are "Scandic" it was just that particular style of star, which I believe had small decorative perforations added with the colour etc that gave it a Scandinavian vibe. Stars can go with any style as long as they are in that decor family.

Totally agree. It doesnt have to be "scandi" to have paper star i in the window. Theres alot of very dark, moody, velvet, seven point stars around right now. Last year i had two paper star lights in my bedroom window (different shapes) and some non litt 8-point paper stars in black glitter paper, craft paper and book-page paper. It was honestly soo cosy to lie in bedd looking at the soft glow and the different sized papers stars arranged in the window while they slightly danced from the heat from the radiator. Kept then up long after Christmas.

Happy Birthday Romeo, NYC is such an exciting place to visit and celebrate your birthday. I was so excited that you visited New Haven. I grew up in New Haven and we do pride ourselves on our pizza. Sally's was a good choice but Pepe's is great too! You couldn't go wrong with either place, considering they were started by families that were related. If you ever decide to visit the East Coast again, consider staying in the Berkshires, home of Norman Rockwell and many Gilded Age "Cottages". I have lived in the Berkshires for the past 30 years and it is such a beautiful place to live. My favorite seasons in the Berkshires is the summer at Tanglewood or the fall with some of the most beautiful fall foliage and festivities.

Ballard Lighting and Design has a Moravian Star light fixture you can get in brass or mercury glass. It is very well made. I bought one a couple of years ago. It was definitely an investment for me. I adore it. Nothing says Christmas to me until I light this star.
