Manhoef is a kickboxer, always has been. He might take MMA fights, but he’s never put the work into a ground game to call himself a true mixed martial artist. Very dynamic striker in his prime, which was 20 years ago. Romero should have easily taken the win. Effortless takedown and ground control means he can spend time playing on the feet and use his bread and butter to win, regardless.

I’ve heard a few fighters who have fought against Yoel who said hitting Yoel actually hurt because it felt like punching and kicking stone....which would explain why many who fight him are more cautious, and his style ,he has the ability to control the pace in a fight , he can slow the pace right down then he’ll suddenly explode with short little bursts of both speed and power that makes him unpredictable....the soldier of god has no weaknesses because he’s also a great wrestler....He’s also so tough I’ve never seen him hurt or even flinch in his fights! Definitely the greatest fighter in the UFC that never won the belt!

They peaked at way different times... Yoel is still peak... Manhoef started fighting in 1995 and Yoel got into mma late, around 2008. Manhoef was very relentless and forward pushing in his hay day but Romero is a different breed. He has too many tools and one shot power for almost most anybody under 205 that ever fought. He doesn't get his credit but real fight aficionados know very well. He would have probably dispatched Anderson Silva one way or the other as well.

Cant keep that terminator sh_t he used to do up forever. That is/was a young mans style. Like Goldberg's pro wrestling style or Jones Junior boxing. It was heavily predicated on God given power and speed that came with youth. Some guys, when they are aged, need to just hang it up because what made them them is just gone. Goldberg cant lift men over his head anymore and Manhoef cant chase you down with kick boxing at 100 miles an hour.

Romero punches literally throws people around even when they miss and hit their shoulder or arm. Every jab or punch to the face he's fought it's always so close to knocking them out. The dude is just a complete powerhouse. Him vs ngannou would be very entertaining.
