I came here bc my first baby was during covid and my husband couldn’t leave in case we forgot something, so I packed way too much. Now I want to be minimal this time 😍 loved this

I’m 36 weeks on Wednesday and while I have watched some videos and seen some pdfs on what to compile for the hospital bag I have yet to do it 🫣I feel like all this obgyn stuff is something I had to relearn as that’s not my specialty, thank you ladies for being awesome!

This was about the least excessive hospital bag video ive seen, seems like people have never been to a hospital in their life when they post their massive list of hospital bag items. I personally wouldnt bring the boppy bc our hospital has tons of pillows, and the only thing from the frida kit is the upside down bottle bc they provide pretty much the exact other stuff but the angle of the frida bottle is more helpful than their peri. I had a 6 day stay with my 2nd after a premature induction and your bag is about the same amt as mine was and i was perfectly fine. I wore the gown the first 2 days and didnt touch my own clothes and thats most peoples stay time so they dont need more than one pair of clothes usually. I brought a preemie and nb outfit to leave bc it was cold but didnt need the nb one(too big as i suspected) but if it was hot id skip the clothes all together and use the hospital tees. People bringing a whole toiletry bag seems excessive to me since hospitals provide all of that. I worked cleaning hospital rooms for a few years and we threw so much stuff away that people didnt even touch and was always in the supply room to restock items and they have every toiletry item you could possibly need if you simply ask for them. Realistically most people arent putting on a full face of make up after birth either so idk why people bring that. Then they have literally anything your baby could possibly need, what you pack is mostly stuff for yourself. They have pacis too if you want them but if breast feeding id skip them all together. Ours gives you gifts too like halo swaddles and hand made hats and such.

Some people are over packers so they tend to bring whats needed and whats not needed. If you're not the one carrying all their belongings I dont think it should be a problem dear

Yeah, & different circumstances might necessitate different things or amounts of things, too. Like, if someone knows they have quick labors & are likely to be discharged the following day, I'd think that mom would be wise to pack less. But, if it's a mom that knows an extended stay for herself or a NICU stay for baby might be in the cards, it might make sense to bring more things. Or, if she has certain preferences about things - for example, I hate the mesh underwear & hospital pads (as well as the typical peri bottle) absolutely hate them. So, knowing that from last time, I'll be bringing adult diapers instead. And I think it makes sense to bring a Boppy if maybe you plan to have a sibling coming to the hospital to hold baby or something. I'm going to bring one because of that & then because my daughter was in the NICU for quite a while & my son may have to go there as well for the same reason (though we won't know for sure until birth), so I want the Boppy for nursing in the chair in the NICU room if that's how things go. But, yeah, for most moms, generally, the lists people give in KZbin of what to pack - are just way too much stuff.

@@saharamill2464Yeah, I guess some people have anxiety about needing something they didn't bring, & end up packing more than they need as a way to soothe that anxiety & I can understand that.

Wow - so few videos talk about shower shoes but they're so necessary. My tip is that, if you have a planned c-section, get them a size up because there's so. much. swelling.

The hospital I gave birth at (Grady in Atlanta, Ga) sucked. I had emergency insurance (Medicaid). I heard I could request a pump but I was denied (that part makes sense tho). I was only given 2 of those ice packs and when I requested more the nurse told me no because each patient gets a limited #. No witch hazel offered. Nurses didn’t even want to give me formula milk (I was trying to lactate but the pain at the time was unbearable). After giving birth nurses stalled on giving me another hospital gown even tho I had requested it many times (since it was an emergency birth I didn’t have time to get my things into my hospital bag which was unpacked at the time.) I’m not making the same mistakes again, I am gonna be extra prepared

I’ve also seen this with medicaid patients when I worked in hospital.. it’s sad they do this.. in other countries healthcare is free and women’s health is treated with much more care

@LalasGemz Hi! A little update, I gave birth to my baby at another hospital, Northside Hospital, in GA. The nurses this time were amazing and so caring. I was offered many, many accommodations and gifts. But since I had gone over prepared, I didn't use many things offered to me, haha 😅. I think the first hospital where I gave birth just had really bad nurses.

I’m so lost in which one I want to do 😭 I don’t want to do OB/GYN but I love love love working with babies, I would prefer to work with the babies over the mamas just because I love babies so much. I’m interested in postpartum, NICU, and nursery! Any recommendations for the brief description I gave? And would I be able to fluidly transfer to any type of nursing if one doesn’t turn out to what I want it to be? Also are there differences in pay? Those are my 3 questions! Also do you recommend and accelerated BSN program?
@Romi_joy
@Romi_joy 2 жыл бұрын
hmm I think if you are more interested in babies, postpartum will give you the most time getting to take care of them. Moms love letting us watch the babies for them and this is when you get to hold them, feed them, rock them, etc while momma gets some rest. NICU you can do all of this as well but babies will be in critical condition so if that interests you then you should try NICU! Nursery nurses take care of the babies in the first 1-2 hours of life then baby goes to postpartum, you dont get much time with babies yourself its more supporting baby in those first few hours and helping mom bond. You do measurements, vaccines, all of that stuff in these first few hours. I hope that helped! When you are a new nurse there aren't much differences in pay. An accelerated nursing program is great if you like getting things done in a short amount of time!

I would suggest a Level II NICU if you’re only interested in baby! I did postpartum for 8 months but didn’t like caring for mom so now I’m a Level II/III NICU nurse and when I’m in Level II I get a TON of baby snuggles, get to feed them, give them baths, make crafts with them etc which is always fun. Thought it would help with the baby fever but I’m due with our first in 7.5 weeks so we see how that worked out 😂😂

So curious about this comment! It makes sense that even a water cleanse and good drying would help keep diaper rash away. I wouldnt want pee acid to just be wet wipes away on me since wipes always feel like they leave residue and wetness down in the nethers is so uncomfortable.

I dont understand ehen moms over pack. Its like they want all this attention from their spouse snd be babied and have a reason to waste money. You dont need to bring babys diaper bag. Just bring going home outfit and onesies for hospital. And a going home outfit for yoyself. Hospital provides mesh pads and bottle to clena yourself but yes the frida curved one is a plus. You dont need to wear cute slippers your literally lying down during your stay and you dont wmat to get hospital germs on new shoes and take it home. You also dont normally get iur breast milk until a few days later so save the extra andbsave your pads for breasts at home. Bring nipple cream and breast feeding pillow because the pillows sre uncomfortable to use to feed. Bring toiletries and carseat.
