I don't understand what you mean by 'someone talking about what to bring if you're NOT married'. She stated 'she had a son'(apart from being a mother, she's also a Labour & Delivery Nurse) hence she's more than qualified to talk about the topic and just been married does not make you a mother.

She’s right, you do have to have an ID with you when you go into labor. You and your partner!! The only way you can fill out the birth certificate is with an ID.

That is sweet. I have had 2 daughters. Both born by c - section. First c - section was after being in labor all day. I was in early labor most of that day and was having contractions that felt like Braxton hicks contractions but alittle stronger . Than my water broke and I wasn’t sure that is what happened so I called my dr and they said smell it , seriously! Reason is if it doesn’t smell like pee go directly to hospital. Well it did not smell like pee . I headed to hospital. In route to hospital contractions quickly become very strong and never seemed too end much between contractions. By the time they checked me for dilation I felt extreme pressure on rectum . They informed me baby had turned in breech position and was not able too be delivered vaginally and they had to do c -section. Second child I wanted to attempt a vaginal delivery and that was the plan but my child was showing sighs of distress at my check up and inducing labor would be risky if I had previous c - section so c-section was scheduled the next day. I was disappointed but knew c -section was needed. Healthy baby and healthy mom is what matters

I love this video so much! I watch so many "what's in my hospital bag" videos and this is so much better. You're not pushing any specific brands that are expensive. You're both breastfeeding and formula feeding inclusive. You understand that just because your hospital does something doesn't necessarily mean another does. I really appreciate this video so much and I love how straightforward you are and how well you explain the reasons for things from both a mother's perspective and a L&D nurse's perspective. 🥰

Extremely useful! I had NO idea that a hospital wouldn't have baby nail clippers... That's shocking to me. So many videos I've watched have encouraged moms to bring less items from home, and rely more on what the hospital has on hand, so I appreciate knowing what ISN'T available there that I really should pack! I also didn't know about the carseat-outfit issue. I'm having a summer baby, so the going-home outfit will be lightweight anyway, but I'll keep it in mind for the following winter that I should invest in a cute and warm "car blanket" to go over the straps, instead of a puffy bear suit to wear, haha!

L&d/postpartum/antenatal nurse here.. totally agree with everything you said, especially the part about other children! For the car seat, totally agree but actually prefer if they don't bring the car seat up until day of discharge (less crowded in small, shared rooms) and not needed in l&d since we have separate units for l&d/post partum. Another big thing, is people not researching how to use their personal Breast pump, and bring it unopened to the hospital.. it's not my job to know how to use every pump on the market. I can give you generic guidelines but I don't know how to use your specific pump.

I would definitely say make sure your partner has a blanket and pillow for Their sleeping arrangements and husband would have his own snacks and plan on buying hospital food from down stairs so mom doesn’t feel guilty and have to share. And I’m so glad I had a nipple shield for the breastfeeding moment where my nipple was raw! Can be painful for the first while but worth the pain starting out. It's been 10 years since my last birth but I'm due in August with baby #2. This is so helpful!

I got lucky when I gave birth they had the congratulations room it was like a mini kitchen at the end of the unit and it would encourage you to walk to the kitchen the fridge was full of ice creams yogurts and snacks unlimited ice water and ginger ale and then cabinets with snacks including apples oranges and bananas . After hearing this I feel like I was lucky.

My top recommendations are bring maternity clothes for the whole stay. I wore a robe over my nursing tank and maternity leggings the whole time. The long phone charger for sure! My own pillow was a life savor!! Definitely brought snacks and my husband brought a book

I brought a waterproof cover then a pillow case and threw the covers away when I left. I ended up with a c-section so it wasn't as messy

Both times I brought a pillow and blanket from home and neither time they got messed up. If I could only bring two things from home that's what I would bring. SOOOO much more comfortable than the ones that hospital provides. The hospital pillows are so flat and the blankets are not warm at all and it's always freezing!

Having my first, this video was brilliant. So glad on my decision already to only have the hubby in the room no one else. Thank you for this video.

This was so informative because this is my first pregnancy and honestly feel like there is soooooo much I really don’t know and that lack of knowledge can be overwhelming. So thank you.

Very helpful list! What I'd add is check with your hospital. Many have lists like that as it really depends a lot on each hospital what they can and can't provide. About breast feeding pillows: I had a really small one formed like a bone and about the size of a neck pillow but filled with those little plastic balls. I had it for traveling but it's great in hospital as well because it is so small.

If you have food allergies bring more of a meal and not just snacks. My unit only had PB uncrustables and strawberry jello. My nurse was nice enough to give me her lunch after I delivered.
