In whole of India the Rule of Islam was simple. The choice was between the Devil and the Deep Sea. Actually there was no choice at all. Because of the sacrifices of the Sikh Gurus and Shivaji and Shambhaji and the revolts by the billigerent Jat Hindus the Hindu and Sikh Punjabis are still breathing and kicking, otherwise the borders of Pakistan would have started from Ghaziabad.

How these sufi converts became staunch sunni Muslims is not explained. The present day western Punjabis who are avowed sunni Muslims carry no traces of softness of Sufism, their transition point of conversion from traditional Hinduism. The tenderness of Sufi sect did not last long. The devotion to the divine Self with all it's sweetness soon lapsed into hard tenets of their present day belief. If it were not for simultaneous entry of Sikhism on the scene, the strategic picture in the Indian subcontinent would have been totally different.

Jahangir was afraid of the teachings of Sikh Gurus because due to the influence of Sikh Gurus, conversion of Hindus by the so-called Sufis was drastically reduced. These so-called Sufis used karamaats to influence common Hindus folks to ultimately convert them into Islam. When that conversion was badly hit by the influence of Sikhism, Jahangir was annoyed and ordered the execution of Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

In Sindh sufism isn't any sect or religion, it's more of like behavior, nature, thinking and emotion. Sufis in Sindh don't have any different religious ideology, but rather the behavioral and emotional aspects. Every Sindhi is sufi regardless of their religion or sect. A Sindhi Shia is as sufi as a Sunni Sindhi, or a hindu Sindhi. We consider wahabism to be very extremist and orthodox sect. But even Sindhi wahabi are sufic in nature, they are not as extreme as other wahabis. And such nature and behavior of Sindhi people is since ancient times, we Sindhis also do not divide ourselves on religion basis just like other parts of south Asia. For example a Muslim Sindhi isnt entirely Muslim, and a hindu isnt entirely hindu. There's sort of greyness in between. We don't see colors, items, things, names as a religion. Which I feel elsewhere in south asia is very strong. But unfortunately it is changing due to other people discriminating us on this behavior. For example in Sindh the sufi color is safron not green. But a muhajir or Punjabi would mock us saying you are hindu not Muslim. Now for a Muslim to say that you are less Muslim, its very big thing, so he would rather abandon that thing which makes him less Muslim.
