All my life I have wondered how Hltler came to power in a civilized western country like Germany. Now I know.
@masterchinese282 ай бұрын
The Germans living under the Weimar Republic were drowning in out-of-control inflation and sending huge parts of their income to pay reparations for WWI. They were desperate people who were willing to cling to absurd ideas, (as desperate people do). The average American enjoys an income that is significantly higher than most of the developed world. We enjoy the most diverse economy that has ever existed, the world's currency, the best universities... (list goes on). But the media have convinced the average American that they have it rough, that they are the ones suffering and that the only thing standing between them and the happiness that they deserve is the political opposition. They don't know true desperation, but they make choices as if they do.

If you had paid attention in history class, you would already have known that answer. The Weimar Republic was a failed state after WWI. People were burning pallets of money to keep warm because the wood was worth a lot more than the money was. In the midst of this chaos, a small group promised to make things better. Their leader managed to blackmail the dying elected President of the republic into appointing him Chancellor, and from that bully pulpit he was able to convince a lot of people that everything would be fine if it weren't for one particular group of people, and that by sanctioning, locking up, and ultimately eliminating these people, the government would thrive.

The bad people in the Republican Party of Trumpism era are now labeling the Reagan Republicans as being "RINO"s. We Reagan Republicans had the Motto "Character Counts!" The Trumpists who have taken over the party are completely blind; they cannot see how bad Trump is for America and for the entire world. They are too busy worshipping their leader. They can't even see that Trump is showing symptoms of dementia; they prefer to speak that way about Biden. The Trumpists don't read much. If they read, it's only for entertainment or comic books. Reagan Republicans will read and learn. Reagan Republicans read the books and the articles and the reports where those who worked with Trump, especially in the White House, reveal what kind of President he really was. He was not an achiever; he *took credit for the hard work of those around him, who kept bailing the water while Trump was trying to sink* the ship! !!! Trump is a DESTROYER! This is something the Trump followers will never see, since they are in the trap called "The Psychopathic Bond." If Trump gets the nomination, he will fail. There are far too many respected Republicans who are warning against re-electing Trump. The TV Ads will scroll the names of more 100 Republican officials who will be voting for anyone who can stop Trump. The Trumpists should wake up, but they really truly can't see; they are in a Cult with all the Cult behaviors, and reason cannot reach them. Trump is a Sociopath and his followers cannot comprehend the words of the psychologists who are warning us who he is. When a Cultist hears warnings all the warnings sound "incomprehensible" or like "confusion." This is a big red Flag: a brainwashed person can only hear opposing words as "confusing." It's one of the symptoms of being brainwashed.

different times, careful evoking history to argue ideological precedent. In the decades following the war against the British for Colonial Independence, the French were no closer allies than they were when there was stalemate for the frontier in the New World between France and Britain all throughout the 1700s. It should also be mentioned, we strengthened ties to Britain and all but retained them as our primary ally for trade.
@froglady7491Ай бұрын
France helping the Colonies during the Revolutionary War is a bit different than the US supporting Ukraine. The Colonies were not a sovereign state at the time, they were part of Britain. This would be more in tune if the two eastern provinces declared a war of independence against Ukraine. They did not, and in fact were negotiating an agreement with UKraine for more independence, without separation. France had no stake in the outcome. The Colonies would not become part of France. But they did want to breakup the power base that England held. The US also has no stake, we will not gain any territory if we help. But Russia has a huge stake. They will gain territory equal to some or all of Ukraine. This territory will solidify their annexation of the Crimea and give them a greater presence in the Black Sea. It will also open the door to attack Moldova and the Baltic States, restart their attack on Georgia, and perhaps even try for Poland. Second, France had no obligation to help the Colonies. In fact, if it helped us and we lost, Britain might turn its forces on France. But the US does have an obligation to help Ukraine. We have recognized Ukraine as a sovereign nation since 1991 and while Ukraine is not a NATO country yet, if it falls, there is a very good possibility that Russia will continue to try for other sovereign countries who ARE NATO members. Third, we are supposed to be the leader of the free world. Do we stand strong or do we become cowards and give up on democracy? Do we let China or Russia take over the leadership position, knowing that neither have a democratic government.

America was the leader of the world not because of any of the former Presidents or church leaders as Romney think. It was because World War II was won after America joined the war, it had money, and progressive things were happening in the US. The progress in the US was not because of any President. I thought so when I was an Indian citizen. But after coming here I understand that the President has not much power in US democracy. Power is with Senators, and high amount is with the House Representatives. The funniest part is that they do not go along party lines, but individual ambition, ego, money etc. The real progress in US is because of the inventors, scientists, and business people. In the US democracy, the President is elected by the people by their direct votes. In India, may be in other small democracies, the Prime Minister is elected by the majority party. It may be the leader of that party or not. No voter can choose the PM or President. But in those countries, the PM is all powerful. He can do anything he wants (definitely a minus point). But he or she will not be opposed at any point. Where as in the US, the President is directly elected by every single voter, but the Representatives wield the real power, and always block the President from doing anything. Pakistan was vehemently supported and financially aided against the larger democratic country, Pakistan never had a stable government. The US probably liked it. How can a President be praised for this? Appointment judges especially in US Supreme Court in party lines is another major thing that should be reconsidered. It eats away the independence of Judiciary, one of the main pillars of democracy. The US runs without more damages because of the integrity of the Supreme Court judges, and some of the other judges who keep country above.

I remember hearing a number of conservatives who said that they thought Romney would make a good President but the Tea Party era forced him into having to be this jerk. I doubted that narrative back then, after all, he had kind of a Gordon Gekko vibe. Then Trump came along and I realized they were right.

I liked Romney too until he gave his 47% entitlements speech. That number includes social security. That talk still in Ron Johnson literature during last state of union. Still Romney soars above the rest.

It's phenomenal that all it takes to make a Republican seem saintly compared to the rest of his party is to give him consistent morals and principles. Qualities that are completely absent from the rest of the hillbilly fascists that found their way into D.C.

Mr. Romney hits the nail on the head! CHARACTER IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! A leader is the strength of a society; and the citizens of a country must be very careful of the type of leaders who are put in leadership. A leader must be of sound character...exemplary behavior! The character of a leader determines the character of a society. Once lawlessness is practiced and accepted by our leaders, then it shapes the society and it becomes the norm. Once lawlessness takes over a society there's nothing left to build on. It will be demolition from there on!!! Even if a leader does poorly economically or otherwise during his tenure of leadership but has good character, a country can rebound because the foundation remains strong. Mr. Romney makes all the sense. He's a man of wisdom!

Trump is for America. Mitt Romney sold this country out a long time ago. Mitt is a weak man and has no character.
