My daughter and I live in Arkansas, about 1 1/2 hours away from there, and visit at least 2-3 times a year and have done so for the past several years. We always leave with a few buckets full of a mixture of rocks, clusters, and points. I've found a lot of nice points each time we visit and most recently found the biggest point I have ever dug up at Ron Coleman, which I posted a video of on my KZbin page. The best time to go is right after it rains and in warmer weather. Always dig in the darker piles, as they are freshly dumped. The only time they had dumped while we were there was in the summer months, during the week. Last month, we went on a Monday right after a good rainfall, they had a shovel stirring up the dirt piles, which gave many of us the opportunity to find a lot of nice crystals (clusters and points) that were possibly sitting on the bottom before the shovel stirred it up. That was when I found a big crystal point.

If you want to do extremely well you have to plan your trip around the weather. Wait to go there till they have had a couple days or more of heavy rain then go early the very next day after the rain and surface collect. You can even go during the heavy rain and do well also. The natural erosion going after heavy rain will expose unbelieveable crystals. Looking at the piles in your video, I could already see where lots of people had dug before you which means you are not gonna find the same surface finds as you could on fresh rained ground. I usually did a couple buckets worth of crystals doing it that way. I do have lots of video of quartz collecting but I have not edited it into trips yet.

Thank you for the information unfortunately I don’t think I will ever go back there again just because I would rather actually be in a mine and be able to dig in service collect in an area that is actually being worked. These are tailing piles which are basically the 2nds Per se and have been cherry picked to fill their gift shop and to sell online. I’m happy that you have had success there unfortunately for $25 I did not get close to my moneys worth and do better at home in Pennsylvania for free

@@JayDrone sorry Dude but yes You’re a whiner. You didn’t exactly work very hard. If you want to just walk around and find stuff on the surface , go to their shop. I just went and had a blast. We didn’t find world class crystals but we knew these were the tailings. Also we did see people pull out some beautiful pieces, double terminated clear 6+” crystals and small but beautiful clusters.

I've been to the Coleman mine several times. The trucks dont run every day but when the do run they'll run atleast 3 or more times. And I've only had one time there that wasnt that great. Usually I get quite a haul from the Coleman mine. Every time I've gone except for once I've left with something the size of an apple atleast

Yeah....like I said last night I wasnt impressed...the only spot I found decent stuff was climbing down that steep slope and digging in the dirt road below where I probably wasn't supposed to lol

DigDigDig Right kind of sad that you have to sneak around to actually get something decent

My family went to Arkansas a few years back and we spent time at Wegner Quartz Crystal Mines. We enjoyed it, found more than you did in less time. Staff was really nice. The only issue we had was a torrential downpour while there. I would go back to Wegner’s again if I had a chance.

I do like my rocks. Pick up random ones when they're unique and add em to the rock garden. Crystals??? New to me.
