Hey bro, I don’t mean to seem rude if I do, but I’m the future I suggest using a wash tub full of water. All the dirt will sink to the bottom as you go. Doing this in the sink can cause a blockage.

I clogged my washer after washing my filthy mining clothes. My hubby said no more. He has made me go to the laundromat ever since.. expensive repair bill.

I stopped going to the Coleman mines years ago when they stopped digging for a few years. Tried again last year and got nothing compared to other mines.

I live about 10 miles from Coleman. They have set up a calendar to show when they are dumping fresh dirt and it’s also good to go the day after it rains.

There was no calendar when my husband and I were there last October and the office staff said they never knew when fresh dirt would come up from the mine. Fishey to me.

After watching the 1st video I was turned off by RC mine. But this one shows that it could be good. The other channels videos by are of private digs in the mine itself, kind of misleading in my opinion.

@@JayDrone I saw those "fake" videosd and totally suspect that the video was made because they got paid for it or got a free dig in the mine itself. I was told that no tourists were allowed in the mine, but also was told that RC's staff can dig there and do every day. RC mines it for their own profit and not in the interest of anyone who pays to dig tailings. Look up the term for tailings...

Thanks for sharing, I didn't know about this place. I don't know what I would use them for lol but it would be fun finding them. We've been planning a trip to Crater of Diamonds state park anyway so this will be a cool additional place to go while we're there. 👍👍

There are also several other mines nearby in Mt. Ida. Coleman is a good place to start for beginners.

My husband and I spent two fruitless days there and consider the whole operation there a total rip off. The first day we were there there were NO trucks delivering any dirt from the mine. The second day we were there a small back-hoe type rig brought up a small bucket of dirt but mostly huge bolders from the mine. There might have been a bushel basket full of dirt delivered the whole day by two trips from the back-hoe. The end of the first day I asked one of the office staff how often did they deliver the "truck loads" of dirt from the mine to the area where the diggers were and was told that they didn't know when the trucks would be delivering and that it was up to the pit staff to decide that. Now folks at that comment I got totally suspicious of what was going on there. I've seen videos of huge truck loads of dirt being set out for people to dig through and I do not believe a single one of those video posters. The red flag went up when the office didn't know the deliveries. Well someone in the office dictates the schedule or is it just up in the air with the operators digging at the pit? It's described as an active crystal mine but that company is in it to sell crystals and they definitely will not deliver top of the line crystals topside for the tourists to find. We got maybe a handful of broken pieces in two whole days of digging the tailings from the pit. The office confirmed that the tourists were digging in the mine's tailings so I looked up the term "tailings". What does tailings mean in mining? Tailings are a by-product of mining. After ore containing an economically-recoverable commodity is mined from the earth, that commodity is extracted in a processing plant or mill. After the commodity of value is extracted from the ore material, the resultant waste stream is termed “tailings”. That's it in a nutshell. I even contacted the office via email and told them that my husband and I were totally disatisfied and one of the office ladies said she was mailing us a crystal from the offfice. We never received anything from Ron Coleman Crystal Mine. When I called to ask what address the box was shipped to she didn't know and said that there was no tracking... Save your money folks and go somewhere else than Ron Coleman Mining. And if you do decide to try your luck, please do not stay at the campground across the road from the mine's office. It's a big rip off too. The camp hostess is never available per the sign beside her camper that says "camp host not available." The site (Number 11) that we stayed at was very uneven. Also in the tent area there was an electrical outlet exposed for any kid staying there to touch and get electrocuted. The bath house was being worked on and the whole place is nasty beyond belief.

I didn't tell you the whole story unfortunately but do appreciate your candor and happy you got something the next trip. The worst part of it was that the ladies in the office lied to me. The second day when I stopped by to reregister, both my husband and I paid for that day's digging. But when I emailed them my unhappiness I was told that they didn't have a record of me digging that second day. I was also told by Tresa McFarlin who said she was office staff that she mailed me a crystal from the store, no tracking, didn't know what address she mailed it to and of course, never received anything in the mail from them at all. How can you send a valuable package with no tracking? In any case, that's the tip of that iceberg, and we're very unfortunate to have travelled from TN to AK based on the resumption that we'd have a chance to find at least one decent crystal. We have been rock hounding since the 1970's and know how to dig too. I still say it's a rip-off and will never ever head that way again. Digging through tailings is a complete bust. Tailings are what's left over after the active, precious stuff is extracted. Found that out the hard way when the office there told us that everyone digs through the tailings... : (

@@mariemorris151 Yes, Pretty much all the mines work that way. NONE of the mines allows people to dig for stuff that has any value more than just a few dollars. Even when you pay 100$ for them to "open a pocket" they ALWAYS open the pocket the day before you reserve it, so they can check it out, and if there is anything of real value, they move on to another spot, and keep that pocket for themselves. You just pay money to dig through the trash at these places. They are essentailly allowing you to "dumpster dive". One place the doesn't is Haunted Ridge drusy quartz mine in Cadet, Mo. They let you have the run of the property and just keep whatever you pick up or dig out. Quartz mines down in Arkansas are really ovepriced, and prey upon tourists to chage a bunch of money. My quartz plate specimen that I have I paid 50$ for at a show 30 years ago... today, those mines down there would want 1,000$ for it. Even back 30 years ago, I went on vacation to Arkansas, and my 50$ specimen down there was selling for 200-300$.
