What a lot of viewers don't know is that the pilot who runs to rescue Busch, CW4 Keith Jones, plays himself in the movie and recreated his rescue of Busch. Earned a Silver Star if I'm not mistaken. Many of the real pilots from the battle are flying the choppers in this film.

Unfortunately Sgt Busch died from his wounds. Think he was awarded the Purple Star for defending the crew for as long as he did.

No such thing as a purple star but there is a purple heart which he did receive and a silver star both awarded posthumously

RIP. I didnt know that. Seeing him get out of the crash and just start shooting, made me fully realize the situation he was in. I kept asking why didn't he just hide in the chopper. But there was nowhere to run or hide. The only thing he could do was fight. I applaud his bravery.

In a recent interview with Shawn Ryan, Delta Operator CSM Tom Satterly (Ret.) said Dan Busch should have gotten the MoH for defending the 6-1 crash sight. He grabbed a SAW and left his position of cover to keep the crowd back. Busch was gravely wounded and the other sniper took a round in the neck before Star 4-1 picked them up.

Staff Sergeant Daniel Darrell Busch died from his injuries in a military hospital in Germany. He was only 25 years old.

Both Smith(the second sniper at 4:32-4:33) and Busch bought a lot of time for the Rangers to set up a perimeter. Both being able hold of the Somalis also saved the 2 machine gunners/crew chiefs of 6-1 despite both are absolutely shredded to pieces. Their actions were as commendable as the heroics of what Gordon and Shughart did at the second crash site.

Ok so long story short, the US 75th ranger regiment was there to supply food and water blocked off from the insurgents to the people of somalia. So the insugemts and their leader (i forgot the leaders name) are the bad ones here and the rangers and the UN are the good guys. And the civilians are good too
