Earl's entire life skill-set was based on doing the bare minimum to stay employed and remain under the radar. Once he was out the door he was in a new world and failed miserably until he got pity job from a friend of the show.

earl may have had major problems after that hit to the head. even a slight hit to the head can change you forever. me and a close friend for many years were walking home from a bar he fell and hit his head on the pavement it didmt even knock him out but late that night he was throwing up we thought maybe he drank to much the next day he had a bad head ache we made him go to the emergency room and turns out his brain was bleeding he had pressure on his skull and it changed him for the rest of his life. he gained a lot of weight wouldnt come out of his home. he had a temper that he hadn't had before. he became confrontational some times for no reason at all. the guy I was friends with died when he fell down on that pavement. it's crazy how fragile the brain is.
