Ron Hynes performs at the first ECMA Showcase in Halifax at the Pub Flamingo. This song title would make a good autobiography title for Rons Life.

I met Ron when I was 15 and sang with him in Sydney NS back in 1988. He was awesome had such a great time. Didn’t know then the extent of him at that point. He told me to come and sing with him again. I sure wish I had. One of the greats. RIP Ron ❤

This was one of the first songs I learned on guitar, long before I started writing songs myself. RIP Ron. You're a true Canadian Legend.

Thanks for these posts Harry Jamm. I only discovered Ron Hynes recently after knowing of his song Sonny's Dream, which I'd seen performed on Garrison Keillors "A Prairie Home Companion" years ago. I ran accross a KZbin recording of it a month ago and seeing other performances by Mary Black and so many more, I thought I'd look into who wrote it. I only wish I'd done so years ago and not missed Ron in life. As a fan of Gordon Lightfoot and other great songwriters since the 70's I really enjoy and appreciate the ability that goes into such great works. I hope to find available all of Ron's works and plan to enjoy them in memory of this great talent, (a word greatly overused these days, but in such cases as this man, very accurate). This has got to be my very favourite versions of a brilliant piece of work by Ron. It's the complete package that I think makes it so great. The way he introduces it is most enjoyable to listen to and to watch his "acting performance" in true form. He's up there in "not an easy key" (at least not for me to sing it) which forces him to strut his true talented self. Great work my good friend. I'm there for you. See you at the next possible gig. Off the top of my head, I'd say 1989. I shot it the same year the Rankins were there as a showcase band for the first time. They got their record deal the following day :)

On second thought....this was likely 1991.....since Newfoundland wasnt included in the original Maritime Music Awards til they renamed it the East Coast Music Awards in 91 I can dig out the original tape to confirm, but its def from the 1990-91 era.
