Written/Recorded by: Paul Desmond with the Dave Brubeck Quartet
Arranged for Solo Bass by: Ron Knobler
"Take Five" is one of my favorite Dave Brubeck songs and uses the 5/4 time signature which was the first jazz standard to use this "odd" time signature when this song was recorded in 1959.
I absolutely love all of Paul Desmond's alto sax parts in the studio recording of this song, so I made it a point to learn and play every single note that Paul plays in my solo bass version. I play the sax melody and the sax solo all note-for-note -- while also playing the piano riff and bass parts during the head of the song.
For this solo bass cover I’m playing the WHOLE song on bass - the bass parts, piano parts, and saxophone parts are all played on bass simultaneously. No overdubs, looping, or backing tracks.
Gear used for this recording: Fodera Monarch bass, Harley Benton Block 800B-MKII bass amp (DI out), Behringer U-Phoria UM2 digital interface.
