Thanks for the demonstration. Sound a bit floppy. How do they compare in loudness?
@ronknoblermusic
@ronknoblermusic 4 ай бұрын
Theae strings a bit floppy, but most bass uke strings sound floppy, LOL -- unless they have really high tension. The flat spiral strings are definitely louder than rubber/polyurethane style syrings acoustically, and just as loud as any other flat would bass uke strings I've tried The flat spirals have the definition especially in the lower octave like a flat would string, but at lower tension which is easier on the plucking hand.

@ibendiben 4 ай бұрын
@@ronknoblermusic I guess what I meant with floppy is, that they seem to rattle on the fretboard. It's your playing style too probably. But perhaps they could do with a little higher tension (bigger scalelength).
@ronknoblermusic
@ronknoblermusic 4 ай бұрын
@@ibendiben yes some rattle when digging in with your picking hand. Plucking softly decreases output overall, including that noise.

@@ronknoblermusic Yeah, well I'll give them a test anyway. See how they do on bigger instrument. Awesome new development. Thanks!

I'm a big fan of the Yellowjackets, especially the bass part. Are you interested in 12 string bass? A good friend of mine builds 12 string basses named Brooks EXB12 and they sound exceptionel!

I've been fortunate enough to have Keith and Kyle to build my Roscoe just the way I wanted. With input from Keith of course. Wow is all I can say. I now own 4 and I can't sell any of them. They are just a little different, but boy do the look and sound great. If you try one don't be surprised if you just have to have one or four.😂😅😊.

Do you think these strings would fit on a Kala U-Bass SUB solid body, even if i trimmed back part of the black material on the nut end?
@ronknoblermusic
@ronknoblermusic 9 ай бұрын
These flat spiral strings fit on my 20.5" scale bass uke without any mods to the nut or anything else, which I previously had Aquila Thundergut strings installed. Without seeing your ubass, I would assume they would fit.

Jimmy was the first bass player the I copied for fingerings and using scales as melodies. He's the second bass player that I had saw that plays lefty upside-down. Yhe first person is a friend that I grew up with. That way of playing always boggled my mind.

did you need to change the nut? I just got a set for my Oscar Schmidt but Kala recommends the nut be swapped. A $13 part shipped to Canada would end up costing almost $50! Hoping i can get away with the regular nut.

Similar to an electric bass round wound strings from an effort standpoint -- not hard to press down. Easier on the right hand compared with rubber bass uke strings. Some string noise but not as much as round wound bass strings.
