Very sad. Bugner is now 74 years old, and has very severe dementia, and according to his son remembers nothing at all of his boxing career.

Larry Merchant mentions the scoring system being public. Here’s a crazy idea…… Hire retired professional boxer to monitor and score the fight from close circuit with replays. The way that COMPUBOX calculates its statistics. You could have 10 boxers sitting off screen using all the modern camera angles, take their scores and give them to ringside judges to confirm the fight.

Joe Bugner good fighter. I think he would have made the Klitschkos big problems. He had a long reach 2.08m.

Before the juice took over when boxing was about skill and guts. These two guys would wipe the floor with the current crop. They wouldn’t stand a chance. Take away the juice and Usyk is a middleweight and Fury, AJ and Dubois can’t get past the first round without gasssing. Not to mention the other bums robbing people of their hard earned cash with their poor skills.

Are you kidding? Boxers took as much juice back then as today. Maybe more. Need evidence? Look at the size of post war featherweight boxers heads.

Showing the judge's scoring round by round can be abused. Toward the end of his career, Ali had such a fight. Between rounds he had someone monitor the scoring from a TV set and adjusted his strategy accordingly. THAT is a blatant abuse because it gives one fighter a potential advantage over the other one. Thinking back now, I just can't remember after that Ali fight when they ever broadcasted the round by round scoring in a fight.

Frazier didn't even fight Norton. He ducked the heavy hitters. Really, who was Terry Daniels and Ron Stander? Then he took on BIG George and simply wasn't ready
@keithcampbell6806Ай бұрын
Good evening you contradicted yourself. You said he ducked the big punchers but reminded us that he fought Foreman. The only reason he didn't fight Norton is because they were friends.
@anthonydileonardo8156Ай бұрын
@@johnfrawley4518 Frazier and Norton were friends, but when Norton pressed him in sparring, Joe's left hook knocked him cold....in 1972, Frazier tried to set up two fights with Miguel Paez and an ill-fated white hope { died of a brain tumor } Jimmy Lee Elder but wound up with Daniels and Stander.....out of the 2, I could see only Stander because he was a brawler with no punch but as heavy as Joe.....Foreman was the one guy Joe couldn't beat.....I'm sure Earnie Shavers would've been the other and Joe admitted his fighting style would got him KO'd by Earnie....they were going to fight at MSG in 77 but Frazier wound up with hepatitis...Joe's fight with Scott LeDoux also got canceled for health reasons....

@@johnfrawley4518 Big George is one of the heaviest punchers of all time, Joe Frazier fought him twice. He also fought Jerry Quarry twice, another hard puncher. Your view that he ducked heavy hitters is quite obviously baloney.
