Reagan ran an under the radar candidacy, and unlike Richard Nixon, did not run in any primaries in 1968. It was the hope of Reagan's backers that Nixon and Rockefeller would cancel each other out, and that the party would turn to Reagan as the compromise candidate. He was prepared to step up, though he himself later admitted that he wasn't ready in '68, and that he was very relieved when Nixon got the nomination and won the presidency. Reagan's time would come, and come when he was really needed.

13:37 Interesting to see that Reagan modeled himself on JFK back in the 1960s, with his fast delivery and his jabbing of his finger in the air. Later, as President, Reagan always kept his hands on the podium, and delivered his addresses in a softer, huskier tone.

Thankfully-Ronald Reagan SOUNDLY defeated the egregiously incumbent governor-Pat Brown-by a margin of one million votes! Additionally-the young persons of that era were VERY rude and abusive toward Mister Reagan! In contrast-persons in the age range of 18-24-the age range that I was in November, 1984-gave President Reagan 66% of their vote-I was one of those farsighted voters-residing in Houston, Texas at the time!
