@charleslowe5222 жыл бұрын
Yes he was. Some fighters at 22, Mike Tyson for instance, had already had their man strength. Vasquez was able to just man handle Winky and walk through every punch Winky landed. Instead of this fight ruining Winky, it made him better. Winky didn't dwell on this loss or the fact that he was dropped and nearly stopped several times in this fight. Winky improved his defense after this fight, stopped engaging fighters who were superior punchers and learned to use his great jab to dominate fighters. Although when Winky fought Jermaine Taylor he ate some big punches from Taylor and was never hurt and would always fire back against Taylor in a very exciting fight.

Yeah it’s strange Winky at an older age so easily outboxed such quality fighters as Mosley and Trinidad yet here as a younger more primed boxer got beaten so decisively by a fighter like Vasquez
@charleslowe5222 жыл бұрын
@@walterseverin1520 I was a little to quick with my comment, Winky did have moments of success in this fight. Vasquez was simply able to man handle Winky. Even though both fighters were the same weight, Vasquez was clearly much physically stronger. Winky at 22 was just starting to get "the man strength" as it's called. Vasquez at 28 already was at that point, plus Argentina fighters just seem to be very physically strong. Remember Jorge Castro and Lucas Matthysse. Castro just so happened to fight two fighters who were punchers, Terry Norris and Roy Jones Jr. and they had enough power to keep them honest. Surprisingly though, little 5'5" Pernell Whitaker easily out boxed Vasquez, but Vasquez was probably past his best at that point and here he was in his physical prime. As fighters who fight in Vasquez's style don't have long careers. Winky just seemed to get better with each fight. His first fight with Bronco McKart he won a split decision, second fight was a unanimous decision, third fight he frustrated McKart so badly McKart quit in the 8th round. Then Winky got his shot at Vargas. I thought Winky won, but the fight was close and it could've went either way. Then Vargas went into a fight where he was dropped three times and he was never the same fighter after that. This fight could've ruined Winky, but it made him better and after this fight I don't remember Winky's chin failing him again.

@@lunatilunati3813 When you see a single word inside of quotation marks, as in this guy's comment when he writes "slipped" it more often than not denotes a sarcastic connotation. I imagine the reason that he's saying slip is probably something to do with following quote: Wright told KO Digest in 2012: "I outboxed Vasquez. I slipped so much they gave him five knockdowns, and at least three of them were slips. But he didn't hit me on the chin or ever hurt me. The last two in the last round, I was just tired and he pushed me down. That was my first time going twelve rounds." maybe next time, instead of jumping to conclusions that end up proving your dreadfully low intelligence, try jumping off your house instead

I love how Winki made those "Slip" comments as if the world would never find out what really happened. Funny thing is....and this is one of the reasons I don't like him is that Max Kellerman had made a comment that it was a home town decision for Vasquez. Seeing that Max was a silver spoon kid, he should have spend some cash and bought a copy of the fight and done what real journalists do....do research and report the truth.
