This was the first time I saw Winky Wright fight. I was so impressed. One of the best technicians I’ve ever seen. I’ve started to watch Wright to learn how to box southpaw.

@@la-do-ra-ch6810 I see. The Vazquez fight was a pretty big anomaly if you look at Wright's career overall. He was also a lot more aggressive back then and tried to be more of a volume puncher.

Winky Wright was a seriously underrated boxer in my opinion, another one of those only appreciated once he was long retired.He also gave Adrian Dodson a boxing lesson in the UK as well

This was Winky before he was a big name. Later on he he was flat footed with a high guard and a ramrod right jab. If was a frustrating style, when he won it was just a total shutout and when he lost it looked like a guy just hitting a heavy bag, like Paul Williams.

He only stopped opponents by wearing them down with boredom err frustration. Never the chance of a clean ko by winky it seemed.

Is that Joe Calzhage at ringside? Makes sense that he said one of the only fighters he respects is winky. Probably came from shit like this.

Good performance by Wright, but would it kill these British announcers to have some objectivity? "Winky's not throwing pitter patter punches" as Winky throws pitter patter punches. "Nothing by Bingham is connecting" after her just connected with several hard body shots. Wright easily won the first two rounds before Bingham picked it up in the middle of the fight, landing good body and some head shots. I gave Bingham round 5, the only round I think you could forcibly argue that he won. Wright then came back from that to dominate round 6 (3-5 were competitive). Winky suddenly settled into what would be his usual "stand your ground" fighting style of his later career (think the Vargas fight) in round 7. It was weird seeing this version of Winky, so different from the jabbing, running Winky, suddenly show up and I think it had something to do with Winky losing stamina and Bingham's body shots from earlier. Winky had a problem with stamina (think the first Bronco fight and the Vargas fight) in which he just couldn't keep up the output that would allow him to dominate like he did in rounds 1, 2, and 6. As a result, while I have him winning most of the later rounds (round 9 I scored a draw), Bingham was getting his own shots in. Unfortunately, Winky's footwork proved too elusive and the Brit just couldn't keep up the pressure and cut off the ring. Bingham also didn't know how to deal with Winky's weird angles, like him putting his right shoulder into Bingham's chest and turning his back to Bingham. (Cheeky move by the American.)
