Just great, I always love seeing those Reagan era Cadillac limousines! Excellent video here for fans of these great cars, not to forget those great leaders of the 1980's :) It is also interesting to see President Reagan appears to not be traveling in one of his regular limousines, looks as though this one is provided by the Canadians.. interesting!

James Peter Those great leaders were laying much of the foundation for the chaos we see today in the world of 2020! Effortless charm does not make anyone a great leader!

The Cadillac Brougham from this era was always a classy and suitable car for a leader in this part of the world during that time. Pity that later PM Jean Chretien refused to ride in Cadillacs and abolished its use for such a purpose in Canada, even though the one used by Brian Mulroney was already paid for!

@@t.b.g.504 I totally agree, such an elegant stately car! That is a crime, guessing replaced with something French or is that when Crown VIctoria's were selected?
@t.b.g.504
@t.b.g.504 3 жыл бұрын
@@jamespeter1662 Chretien first used a plain 1992 Chevrolet Caprice from the RCMP, then purchased a new Buick Roadmaster to use as the PM's official car. Ford Crown Victorias, Mercury Grand Marquises, and Chevrolet Caprices were commonly used in the government fleet in that era. (No French cars were ever used). A Cadillac returned to use as the Prime Ministerial Car in 2004 when Paul Martin procured a second-hand DeVille with an extended wheelbase, and were used by Harper and Trudeau Jr.

Other countries follow correct protocol. People not in uniform do not return salutes. Only the US President does that. The rest of the world thinks it odd but continue on with your American centric view of the world.

Trivia: Brian Mulroney (b. 1939 and the youngest of the group), Ciriaco De Mita and Jacques Delors are the only leaders from this event who are still alive today...

Protocol dictates that the President of the United States arrives last. I can't remember which summit it was, but I think it was the French leader who liked to hold back, forcing Reagan to wait. When the President had had enough, he said, "Dammit, let's just go".

No actually protocol dictates that heads of state arrive last. Heads of government first. All are determined by date of service in office. So no in another country or at an international conference the US President would not necessarily arrive last. Unless they chose to keep others waiting.

As much as I didn't like her, Thatcher was my Prime Minister. However, she was NOT the Prime Minister of ENGLAND as stated above, but Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It's like saying that Trump is the President of America. He isn't. Unfortunately, he is the President of the United States of America, (and not for too much longer I hope). Please do try to get it right!
