It's a cold line, but like many lines and words, it doesn't match reality. We know Ronda's wins play over and over and over again in her head because they are the only distraction from her losses. Circulating them helps her maintain the illusion she is still "undefeated." The woman she said those words to would indeed have to think about her all the time if she didn't disappear from the sport in infamy, could never face her fans or the media after 2 losses, and isn't now being lampooned for a tell all where she blames everyone else. Many of the women she defeated would go on to have far more respectable careers in the sport, and can walk into a venue without fear of being booed. She's the one stuck on her glory days and afraid to even come to a UFC event.

she's the product of her mother raising her alone. When Amanda punched her out of MMA, her mother said "let her have it, we're better than getting punched in the face for a paycheck". Now she goes to podcasts saying she was concussed and fighting with a torn ACL against Holly lol. Imagine that, she's the best female fighter ever, but fights injured and loses. Fine, it happens. First thing she would do, if the crap she's been saying was real, she would heal, train and ask for an immediate rematch with Holly, but she never did that, she didn't want any of that heat. Then she took a year off, came back and was destroyed, retired and now says "her mind wasn't there anymore". So annoying. No humility nor respect for much more accomplished fighters. Amanda lost to Peña on a fluke win, didn't say a thing, came back and dominated her completely to reclaim what's her. That's what a true champion do, not retire from the sport pretending that now you're too good for it as Ronda did.

Even in terms of a life story, the people who truly despised him then, now look back on their hatred as a relic of an era because the man was willing to sacrifice to prove that he was more than shallow bravado. Put it this way, the man who challenged the American government and society came to be seen by America as one of THE truly great Americans. Rousey was just shallow bravado and there was no strength of character to help her recover from being brought down, and I think that is what folks are getting at. Had she possessed spiritual strength and moral courage to bolster her talent then that combination could have elevated her past the adversity she faced, either helping her be competitive again or just helped her cement her career accomplishments instead of blemishing them in a cloud of disgrace. What is crazy is how her example is perfect at explaining how important those factors are, and also, I should stress that what is meant by "spiritual" and "moral" is not referring necessarily to religious faith or any particular ethics but building yourself mentally into an in dominatable person ready to confront anything - including a loss, so that failure or losing DOES NOT defeat you. To borrow the definitions from the military; Spiritual fortitude is to make meaning of experiences and be resilient when faced with adversity to create inner strength. Moral courage is the willingness to stand firm on your values, principles, and convictions-even when threatened.

I did not know what the UFC was until Rhonda came along and then Connor. Loved her and followed her. After her first loss, I was stunned. Had no idea of her horrible attitude and excuses. When she took the year off, I thought it was stupid and I realized her arrogance and blaming crap. When she came back, I hated her attitude, but I wrote it off as her acting like she was not there to talk. She is there to commit murder. I heard bad things and wondered if she was really all there, but I hoped she was ready and would win back everything she lost. She got destroyed and I was a bit angry that she turned out to be a selfish unprepared a**hole. And I didn't even know the half of it until recently when all this shit came out. It is too bad. I wish her well and now everyone is trying to destroy her past and her legacy and that's not fair. She earned her belts, and she was great until it was over. And just because you have grown to dislike the person, doesn't mean she didn't earn her fame. Like her or not, she paved the way for every female after her. During her reign, she made the sport what it has become for woman. Without Rhonda, who knows if it would ever have become what it is today.

It's called "falling off the cliff" when an athlete loses their prime basically overnight. An athlete goes from being dominant for a period of time all of a sudden they lose several in a row. Especially against opponents they could have beaten earlier in their career.

I think too much gets made of fighters that Ronda previously beat that went on to become champions and her fans wear that as a feather in their cap. Ronda beat them when they were new to the UFC and they just weren't very good. A fighter has the right to improve. When Miesha Tate got beaten by Ronda, she was sloppy as hell, looked terrible in that fight, and was nothing like the fighter that beat Holly Holm for the bantamweight championship 3 years later. That's how it went for most of the fighters in that division. They trained, got good coaching, and got better while Ronda sat back and let it ride. When Ronda beat Tate in 2013, I remember Dana White talking some real trash about Miesha, saying that she's a has-been and needs to retire. He was actually right, it was her 3rd loss in 4 fights and she looked like total garbage in her loss to Ronda. To Miesha's credit, she went to work, trained harder, went on a 5-fight win streak, and capped it off by beating Holy Holm for the bantamweight championship. Now contrast Ronda's 1st loss. She did the exact opposite. She crumbled like an Oreo cookie and hid from the media in her house for a year. Talk is talk. Miesha turned it around and showed it in the ring. Ronda just gave up.

Early Women's MMA was seemingly all about just putting conventionally attractive women together to fight whenever possible. Misha probably was feeling a bit shown up, but it did show a lack of self-awareness about what was happening in the sport at the time (or maybe it was a subtle call out). It's fucked, but promotions seemed to sometimes treat female fighters like more glorified ring girls given the material that was released surrounding them.

To be fair it is really hard to deal with a black belt olympic judo person. If they get a hold of you it is really difficult to not get submitted. In Judo rules you have to get a submission fast or you are stood up. The speed of which they submit you isnt something you are used to training against.
