3:32 - You should take the remaining distance to the wall, divide by 2 and add half the width of a tile. That way, you don't have any tiles that are smaller than half a tile. You'll end up with one row less of full tiles, but your border tiles will be larger. It gives a much better look.

Love this work. Question. In this and another video you did I noticed a sliver of space between the ceiling and crown molding. Can that be calked? Also would taking the ceiling right up to the edge alleviate the bit of space and need for calking?

Bc your edges of the tiles may need to be cut, or may not be exactly on point, so to say, so taking the moulding off before installing- makes it so that when you put it back on, over the tiles, it gives it a seamless look! DEFINITELY a MUST! Trust me!

Same reason for removing baseboard before installing hardwood floors and floor tiles. The end results look much cleaner and professional since the cuts can be jagged and messy up against the wall, the baseboard completely covers all the miscuts when reinstalled

I don't fully see the reason why the cornice was removed. Surely the faux tiles can be butted to it during installation. It seems now there are many crevices for bugs and critters to hide between the newly installed cornice and faux tiles.

Glad you said that. I 'm not carpenter, but that's just what I thought. I also wonder if they bothered to at least free cycle, sell, or donate the cornice they unnecessarily torn down, rather than sending it to a landfill.

First of all I wouldn't have removed the crown molding. Not sure if that's the very end result or if that's right after installation. Regardless, I always would finish a job like this by filling in gaps with joint compound or one of my best friends, DAP adhesive caulk!

Doesn’t make sense to remove the molding. The panels aren’t a deep profile one. Just add a small cove mounding where the tiles but the crown. One caulked and paint it would look good.

When I make a transaction at a store, I could care less if they have a metal ceiling and then when you go to tap your card they switch it to another area as if thats some type of cool play! Seriously disfunctional! Having striaight work goes a long way! The weird additives are unessisary! Awesome video here!!!!!! That dry waller should have spent his day drinking instead of doing a perfect float. What a waste ... quality work wasted with rich people trying to make their homes look "authentic". Ron, I hope you are not involved in "This Old House" productions. You should have told her to enjoy the ceiling you married.
